Know what I think would be awesome?
A 2015 reprint of the UR "Special ?" paired with the (obviously super-secret surprise *cough*) of being able to play a Prestige Class for your run that year.

That would give the Rod holders a full year to enjoy their Prestige classes before anyone else had a chance at them, and it would give TD a year to iron out any kinks in the Prestige classes (along the lines of "Holy smokes, I didn't realize the interaction of these 2 prestige Classes could let any 2 players clear the entire dungeon on their own!"). It would also give a year for the DMs to get used to seeing them in the dungeon.

So if a newbie found a UR Special in their "00" pack, they would get a double treat: Playing as 5th level, and playing an unusual class!

The way everything is worded now this wouldn't work, but it would be cool if the barbarian berserker could down a potion death's door while at negative HP to reset him/her to 1HP.

you are better off just using the healing. unless you just don't have enough healing to bring him positive. in which case he dies, and it becomes a legitimate use of the potion of deaths door.

My thinking was if the rest of the party is down as well, he might be able to save himself with death's door. With a pouch of tulz that he hadn't used yet and perfect timing he could drink the potion right before he landed the killing blow.

I am not sure exactly what end of room means, but it seems to me that not having anything to fight should trigger his actual death, since that is when the adrenaline that I imagine is keeping him up would stop pumping. This would mean he couldn't down a bunch of healing after killing everything.

i would say end of room means..end of room, when you are being pushed to the next room or out the door

That's not how Potion Death's Door works.
  1. PDD restores a dead character to life. It's not a heal/cure potion.
  2. Because it's consumed by a dead character, it must be administered by another (living) character. Pouch of Tulz or Belt of Retrieval cannot bypass this restriction.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

Let him fight until he dies (-48 HP) then give him a Elixir of Life. Our Barbarian has 57 HP this year, so that would kick him up 105 HP. Pretty nice in the Nightmare True Grind. Bahahaha.

While under the influence of Fight After Death, 0 through -48 HP = alive
Whether under the influence of Fight After Death or not, -49 HP or lower = dead
When not under the influence of Fight After Death, 0 or lower HP = dead

I know this is splitting hairs, but it could come up. If under the influence of Fight After Death, -48 HP is still alive. Hitting -49 is when death occurs.

So then the Elixir could be used as a potion to put him at full right? I guess this comes down to whether you could take an Elixir of life or PoDD while alive.

(EDIT: Misread the original post, so my earlier response is irrelevant.)

Personally, I think it would be cool to have the Prestige Barbarian, under the effect of "Fight After Death" be the one exception to the rule of "Dead people can't administer their own potions."

If the Barb technically isn't "Dead" until -49, then I could see a PoDD not working.
