I don't see how it is less powerful though, especially for Druid and Ranger given the eldritch set benefits.

The Eldritch set bonus plus the Lenses of Divine Sight are a big deal.

Or do you mean the combined Rod only boosts your stats once per year? That is not so, the restriction is only on the prestige class. The stats boost every time.

I'm not talk about the Eldritch as a set bonus, but by the rod vs. segments 1-7 as in once per year downgrade than being more flexible and improving the stat for upgrade and not only share it, but you can go on multiple run with it.

The full rod provides the bonuses every time it is equipped but the prestige may only be used once.

Check it out:
This uniquely numbered token grants the powers from all seven of the individual segments, as shown below:
+1 HP
+1 to Reflex saves
+1 to Fortitude Saves
+1 to Will saves
+1 to Strength
+1 to Dexterity
+1 to Constitution
In addition to the aforementioned powers which are always active, once per year you may play one of 12 special sub-class characters. These are similar to the base classes, but are all 5th-level (no other level-augmenting tokens are required) and come with unique perks. To play a sub-class, you must get a voucher from the TD Store before going into the coaching room.

Charm of Heroism = $700.00 to make > $320.00 actually selling for

Ring of Heroism = $225.00 to make > $200.00 actually selling for

Medallion of Heroism = $100.00 actually selling for

With all stat combine from the segments 1-7 that will eventually bring from 4th lvl to 5th lvl. So by using items of Heroism and segments 1-7 where you have better stat than 12 design sub-class stat. But one question is what haven't they raise the Constitution, Fort and Will because it the same from 4th lvl to 5th lvl.? The only increase is the Str, Dex and Reflexes from 4th lvl to 5th lvl.. The restriction is once per year per rod, but the resolve of the stat haven't been finalize from the last year character cards. All this times the completed rod was meant to raise your level. But it doesn't reflect that completely with the stat that was in the regular character cards presently even with the sub-class character cards. I will not ask if I think there is something a little off base about this because I'm not familiar with this game mechanical math in how it suppose to be.

I've considered it.

Seriously tho, part of the fun of TD is running with friends... a solo run would be less fun.

Plus I have to let Laz show me up. Or try to...

Taunt has some interesting retribution potential.

Bard wearing:
Supreme Ring of Elemental Command (3)
Scorpion Chitin Armor (1)
Amulet of Thorns (4)
Shield of Scholars (to use Scroll of Fireshield or Scroll of Frostshield) as a free Action (6)

14 points of retribution damage.

Throw in a Dragonbane Surcoat for 24 points to a Dragon.

Not an optimal gear set up for hardcore or nightmare. But it is an interesting combination.

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Interesting! With Smoak the frost shield would have done double damage also. Then we have a total of 30 damage to a fire dragon.

The likely flaw in the Dragon scheme is that the Dragon would probably just breath on you. And anyone standing near you.

A solo nightmare run with a wizard would be ruler of TD.
I can't do that, yet.
But I got it this year for a solo run.
