Since they don't do any kind of checks for spells (news to me), how do they do Stat boost potions, like Cat's Grace? Does that effect entire time, period of time, or per "combat"?

It's news to a lot of people. Grind has an insane amount of combat, though, and the few groups who manage to get tickets to the always sold-out event don't want to waste precious moments with spell-checks, so we just skip those and assume everyone is competent enough to succeed at their tests.

how do they do Stat boost potions, like Cat's Grace? Does that effect entire time, period of time, or per "combat"?

While most Grinds are done in one room (physically), there are multiple monsters, and each count as a room, or a combat. Generally whenever the last monster (of a set of monsters) is dispatched, it is the end of a room. The DM typically announces "New Room" and flips the combat boards to bring out new monsters. Potions like Bull's Strength which last for one room will only last for one set of monsters. Class skills (like Sneak Attack or Turn Undead) which can only be done once per combat will also refresh at this time.

Folks have pointed out that it would be (hypothetically) possible to refuse to finish off a certain monster, in order to artificially extend a room. Such as, refusing to kill a final stirge, so the party will remain under the effect of a Bless spell. DMs are aware of this possibility and the potential abuses, and have the freedom to penalize you appropriately if they think you are gaming the system. In the case above, for instance, the DM might announce "The Stirge takes a final deep drink, doing 8 points of damage to you, and then flies away. New Room!"

It's a bit like giving out Push damage to parties who don't finish a "room" in time.

Ok, you said you usually go for max damage...my current Barbarian build (if I can utilize one of the Fire Giant Girdles) gets me to the following:

Melee - +12 to hit, +25 damage, AC - 20, +2 Heavy Trident of Skewering
(drops to +11/+24 if using my Frost Giant Girdle) (Jumps to +14/+29 with Bard bonus)
Missile - +6 to hit, +2 damage, AC - 21, +2 Keen Slayer Bow (Jumps to +8/+6 with Bard bonus)
Saves - Fort +8, Refx +6, Will +5
HP 58 (including Synergy bump)

Have you chosen between Nightmare and Hardcore yet? If you are looking for votes, I vote Nightmare!

I think the Bard is more important as well.

Voting for Bard, but only if Laz sings. Just kidding, all for music being played. Unless I can 'borrow' some Mithral Gauntlets, my Monk should be Melee +12/+20 AC 23, Ranged +4/+12 AC 23, Saves 11/12/14 with 42 HP.

even if laz doesn't have extra gauntlets, I do (not for trade, though).

as for hardcore vs nightmare, my main caution about nightmare is that it sometimes feels like a token-sink; various monster abilities and environment effects will cause you to use consumables or suffer far greater setbacks than you would expect. of course, it sounds like we will be over-equipped for even hardcore, so maybe just take the challenge anyway.

we need to vote for hardcore/nightmare as well

Bard it is

since I have never run with any of you(i think) I am leaning towards hardcore(i am always up for nightmare)

i have not talked prices yet

Since True grind is normally $20 or $28 ...how about $10 a WYC special

We have one charm of synergy, so thanks to Laz for making others available.

Aenllan could use a boost. The head slot is pretty lame for example. Our token collection only supports one really strong build.

I wouldn't turn down a fire giant girdle or Mithral gauntlet loan, but put them where you think they will do the most good.
