Wow Raven you just made me feel super old... :( My first GENCON was 1976... it's been a wild ride since!

I do like the VIG since I get first picks on hotel rooms x2 and the free water all day long!!!

You must be old. I started going to GenCon in the mid-80s, nine or ten years after you, and I am old.

Age is a relative term... maybe I was young when I went in 1976... then again I could read with the help of pictures!

So it looks like there may only be 1 VIG run. I'm hoping I get lucky enough to get a spot in the group. If there is more then one, great. I guess we can see how many of us can make the run.

Well see every later this weekend, after the event list comes out.

Raven wrote: I think we're talking about VIG *badges*, vs VIG tickets.

They were available on the GenCon badge registration system (assuming you could log in when Badge Reg. went live) in the list of choices with 1-day badges, 4 day badges, etc.

They were gone in seconds. In fact, they were gone in less time than it took the average person to click on "VIG badge", select your own name from a drop-down menu, and put it into your cart. Especially since most people were already battling the lag at that point.

I have no special powers per se... but I am proof against the argument that "only people close to the servers can possibly score a VIG badge."

I hear you Raven! I got my VIG badge in 2010 while deployed in Afghanistan on the crappy satellite connection! LAG FTW!!!

I think this sums up the experience of a lot of Gamers who go to GenCon... not just the VIGs.

My first experience with GenCon was back in 1996, when 6 of us split gas costs to drive a beat up old van from Western Canada on a 3 day road trip to Milwaukee, where we camped for $30/night in a 6 man tent at a crappy campground about 30 mins out of the city, so we could drive in daily and spend that much again on downtown parking, just to go to the Con.

Did you camp at Pike Lake State Park? That was my first Gen Con in 1988. I remember the mosquitos were huge, and you had to run, not walk, to get away from them.

As for the parking, you missed a little perk in Milwaukee if you paid $30. B)

Look I think it's great that you guys beat the odds. It's only in the last year or so the VIG badges have been selling out day One. I remember just a few years ago, the VIGs hasn't sold out until Apirl.

The way I see it. The people that get into the VIG program quickly learn the benifits, and see that it's worth renewing as long as the benifits are there.

Now with GenCon growing the way it is. I don't know how long they can go without adding at least some badges. I don't see it happening anytime soon. But I'm sure someone is thinking about it as the Con grows.

I think GENCON should add 5 - 10% new badges every other year. The issue is the early entry in the dealers room that causes issues!

Kaledor, I don't think the early access to the dealer's room is all that big of a deal. In fact I think that could be added to. Maybe 2 hours first day. Being that there are so many people. I still end up on line for most of that hour at many one or two dealers. Or even Add the hour on Friday as well.

The reason I keep renewing my Badge is the early booking of the Hotel. Being able to pick and book my 2 rooms, 2 weeks before non-VIGs is huge. All the other stuff just softens the blow that I drop $500 on GenCon right after Xmas and New Years, and 8 months out before the con. The price is a hard pill... but the VIG room, the refreshments, the early access to the showroom, it adds up.

Adding 5-10% every other year seems a little high. The line for the early access is already 800 people long. While I agree that it has to grow. It really can't grow that much. If you think it's bad now. Just give more people access to the Housing Block 2 weeks early and the VIG program will fall apart and ruin the con for even more people.

What if the housing block was 40%-50% sold out before it was released to the public, and all of the hotels closest to the convention center were completely sold out. People rage now... if that happens it could damage GenCon.

"Part One: Flight of the Zephyr" and "Part Two: Into the Viper's Pit" are both combat and are both being run at the sametime. So it's more of a pick your poison on which run you want to do? And who wants in on each run?

I don't really care which one I'm in. But I would like to try either Hardcore or Nightmare for the run.

I guess with part 2 start earlier and I want to do something at 10pm Part 2 is my best bet.

Well I had a conflict with the time they are doing the VIG runs, but I did manage to get a full ten tickets to Into the Vipers Pit (Puzzle) for Friday at 3:51. Would you guys be interested in making that an unofficial VIG run? we can do what ever difficulty most people want but my preference would be HC or NM. Just Post here with your preferred class(s) and difficulty. and I will keep the list updated. Companions/Aspiring Vigs are welcome too.

Cheers.
