There's a difference between "being sold" and "being claimed".

Jeff has a way of knowing how many have been sold.
(My guess is that he takes a certain number of token packs - say 1,000 - and randomly inserts a GT in one of them. Then he packs those boxes away in his Token Storage room. Then he does the same for the next 1000 packs. And the next, until they are all done. (This is still random because the GT is randomly inserted 1 in every X token packs, but it's not "true" random, so you won't get 3 GTs in the first 100 packs, and then none for the next 2700 packs.)

So Jeff would know how many 1000 tokens packs are sold, and how many GTs are still left in stock.

But we don't know that they are claimed, until someone chimes in with "I found a GT!" and asks to be placed in a GT run.

I have just found what I believe to be the final Golden Ticket (since I ordered it after Jeff's email stating there was only one left). It is on eBay for sale since I was fortunate enough to already have one.

Pretty sure one of those spots is going to stay unclaimed due to the owner not getting to GC this year, I don't think the token was sold.

Second one is still on eBay for $1000 and has no signs of closing. You might be 8 manning this.

Why would somebody know they have a GT, know they can't go, yet not sell, trade, or give it away?

They came down to $1100 but as far as I am aware they didn't sell, nor accept any of the multiple offers in the post

I believe he was going to try and redeem it with Jeff in some fashion, but I think the best he would get would be an UR from the the last two years and MAYBE the token swag from the run this year. I am sure he could have gotten 900+ in real money, which should be more valuable than that.

I heard that the person with the GT on eBay could suddenly make it and is going on a run.

I made an offer on that GT that was rejected. I made the offer in time for it to expire in time for shipping. The problem with how that GT was put on eBay is that if I had placed a second offer it would have NOT expired until it was too late.

That would have allowed the seller to accept my offer at a date that would make the GT useless. Not a chance in the world that I was going to risk that! eBay would have required I pay for it even though it was useless.

The seller should have had the auction end on Monday to prevent any mix-ups like that.
