TOPIC: NIghtmare Mandate - Beating an almost dead horse

Re: NIghtmare Mandate - Beating an almost dead horse 10 years 3 months ago #37

The smoothest way to do it is probably have no "official" Nightmare runs, and if you want to play Nightmare you organize a group to specifically do so.

Or, you can just join whatever Hardcore run you want, and make it Nightmare for yourself by doubling the damage you receive, and/or limiting your equipped items, etc. :P

TPTB are looking at this thread and evaluating whether or not to continue having dedicated Nightmare runs. Thank you for all the great comments.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

Thank you for the feedback.

In this case I would vote and say let all runs be published at normal level, those that know of nightmare/hardcore are most likely already arranging their own runs.

Of course if you want to make it easier for synergy runs is there a way to reserve say 5 runs a night for forum players to book in to?

its the only way I get nightmare, as I can rarely hook up with a group on the forum for me and my nephew.

I've booked myself on two Nightmare-listed runs, previously. Neither of them actually were Nightmare, due to the other random people showing up being newbies without an idea between them.

Please don't get rid of the Nightmare runs. I've run both dungeons on Nightmare the last two years, and I've never been able to coordinate with more than one group on the forums.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the synergy run I did last year, and I'll definitely try to run with them this year, but they only listed 4 runs as Nightmare, and only 1 of those was Lycans.
I know that Nightmare PUGs tend to run with less equipment than most of us, but the run I've been on that complained most about equipment, and my only TPK, was one set up on the forums.
The Nightmare PUGs certainly aren't perfect, but they're the difference between my hoping for the best (while packing extra tokens) and not being able to run Nightmare. I certainly prefer the former.

Ditto- please do not get rid of NM runs. I sign up for NM usually and the groups are almost all pickup groups. I am afraid that if they are all normal it will be really hard to up the level from there whereas if the slot is published as NM I usually haven't had problems even with PUGs to get them to agree to that.

Seras & haasdt: If the Nightmare runs were Hardcore runs, would that work for you? Same XP and you get the "Nightmare" level token, but the challenge level isn't quite as impossible for pick-up groups.

I think having slightly fewer preset Nightmare runs along with a disclaimer of some sort may solve the issue with the surplus of inexperienced people picking up those runs. If this is too complicated to pull off, the idea of upgradeable Hardcore runs is probably the best compromise.

I think renaming it veterans Only instead of Nightmare in the name of the listing would make it perfectly clear.

Only problem is you can be a vet and not equipped for nightmare.

If the Nightmare runs were Hardcore runs, would that work for you?

I suppose that would be better than Normal, but I run Nightmare mostly for the added challenge, and a little to justify continued token purchases. I don't feel like Hardcore offers either. Besides, I don't think the issue is that Hardcore runs aren't accessible, given how quickly the Belt of the Fey went. I'm glad Hardcore exists, and I'm happy it was so well received, but it seems like plenty of PUGs are embracing it all by themselves, so I don't see the need for dedicated Hardcore runs.
If random people aren't prepared for Nightmare, then that seems like a communication issue to me. TD could put a player level requirement on the event, like they do with Grind, or throw a warning on the email players receive when they purchase tickets (and on the event listing, if there isn't one). Also, if equipment is the issue, the language describing Nightmare could be more clear: "This is for people who have lots of experience, moxie and/or tokens." I've yet to hear anyone complaining of a lack of experience or moxie. And if 1 token pack is enough for Normal, and 3 for Hardcore, one could assume "lots of... tokens" is 6-12 packs.
