In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: How did you use your Gear?

Re: How did you use your Gear? 10 years 7 months ago #13

We got the "egg" two thirds of the way up the inside of the tree with the sticks on the ground and then lifted my son up so he could dangle over and grab it.

I think the fey/faerie was in shock that we shot my little guy up so high that she just said, "Uh... thank you... for rescuing my egg...I think." LOL!

In the Pit Trap we used 50ft rope + 100ft silk rope to get our trappd party members up.

There was a pit trap? Will-o-wisp area?

Kinda, there was supposed to be a painted area for black light to hit multiple people. We changed it when that was not working to hit the first person either going to the combat board or obelisk. Then we dropped it for push damage instead.

I tried to use a grappling hook and rope to get half my party out of that pit, but our DM said the walls were too slippery, or something.

Stupid grappling hook. I got that thing back in 2007, and it's never once been useful.

Maybe of they make a gear item a rare, then they would allow us to use it.

I think there should be a "throw anything for 1 point of damage" rule, just for those times you're really desperate!

You know, it occurred to me the other the day that Lycan's Run had an opportunity to require players to use a regular gear token.

The "camp overnight" room (with the werewolf) assumed characters had a way to start their campfire. In a tabletop game, an old-fashioned Bastard DM From Hell would have asked characters on the run "does anybody have a way to start a campfire?"

Probably 90% of groups would have been fine (because there been enough tinderboxes and tindertwigs handed out over the years), but groups who didn't should have been surprise-attacked by the werewolf.

I really think regular gear as to start meaning something, or handing those out to newbies just begins to feel like a scam.

I removed almost all gear from my plinko box because I felt sorry for new people drawing it asking what it could be used for. The first year I did it I had some rum in there and when a small kid pulled it, I said "hey you're not old enough to drink that" and let him pull again. I gave the rum to the parent and they laughed.

I was sad that when we tried to use a mirror to see the reflection in the dryad room we were flat out told no. I was like.."really.." even if you didn't have a mirror just say it works and tell them what it says.
Our water was mucktiy and hard to read through. Even when the water stops flowing its still bubbly.

Yes a nice touch would have been to require the players to light the fire else suffer a suprise first round.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!
