In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Feedback Needed on Relic/Legend Event Idea

Re: Feedback Needed on Relic/Legend Event Idea 10 years 7 months ago #265

I was all for the scrapping of the white token idea.
If you want to keep it though, I will once again re-iterate my support for the Lyre of Echoes.

Here's why,
It gives the bard options of what actions they can take.
If you don't give it to them, they will only sing. Forget spells, forget lore forget combat, its the bard singing all the time. = boring.
The lyre of Echoes gives them every other round to try something different.

If you've never played a bard, trust me and the others that do on this one. If you play a bard I'd be shocked if this wasn't on your list.

I agree with Mike, these are supposed to be place holders until relics come along.

p.s. they ARE keeping the bag check from what I read.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!

But you don't need to have a relic to run the event as it currently stands. I have relics, but I don't have older tokens because I haven't been playing very long.

I agree; trying to come up with an "Approved" list of tokens and then white printing them would likely create more unrest.

Stick with with the $2K token purchase to enter. Can only bring Legendaries, Relics, Platinum/Onyx (because of the rarity they are protected from the portal magic).

Offer a cool retro experience and completion token as the reward.

I personally don't like the Platinum/Onxy idea, but that is for personal reasons I understand. I have traded away almost all my plats because they had no value in dungeon. I understand this is just me so my gripe is only my own.

I like(d) the idea of whites just being basic (commons) tokens that will eventually get replaced by relics in years to come. I think you will need to do tokens for slots that do have relics as well because you never know if someone actually made that relic. If they are commons it is not going to matter much which they are because outside of collectors and the planar zone they aren't going to do much. Just my two cents.

You could always do something like make the whites reprints of the commons from the year the throwback rooms are replicating to add to the nostalgia.

Regarding the eye slot, do we really have to fill that this year? There’s only the one red eye slot item, which is very limited in scope, with no green from which to choose. What if we put in the Violet Prism Ioun Stone instead? I like that this might be an incentive for someone to stretch for the $2k, everyone can use it, and I like the conundrum it creates in whether or not you use it.

One thought is: if Jeff decides against the blue items, then I agree, the eye slot is pretty weak. We could replace it with another melee weapon, probably some type of staff.

Another thing to remember: a lot of the slots are going to be taken by big buyers (4K or greater). They will be getting a copy of every token and can and should bring them into the dungeon. This will ease the problem of randomness messing with party makeup.

If you're thinking another melee weapon, a +1 Darkwood Club would be usable by all if you replaced the eye slot item, and is one-handed.

Brad Mortensen wrote: I'm disappointed that this is going from a cool chance to showcase relics and recreate some old dungeons that some of us relatively newbies never saw before to haggling over which primo tokens we're going to make limited edition reprints of.

In my opinion the white-back tokens are distracting from what should be the coolest part of this reward. I honestly think we should scrap it and just come up with an approved list of whatever tokens we say can pass the gate. If you own one, you can bring it, and don't pass out anything except maybe a completion token at the end. Make it like True Grind; just about the experience, not the rewards. The rooms themselves are reward enough.

Sorry, it wasn't my intent to distract from the event. I was under the impression that part was already set (ie - $2k order for a ticket, separate registration for slots and character selections, 4 room fun event that may pull rooms from old dungeons).

I'm fine with saying just bring in any common or uncommon items with you that don't affect the party card (to keep party card creation quick and simple), as well as any relics and legendaries.

But, from Jeff's post, I was under the impression he was interested in doing the white backed tokens with the original suggested list in that post.

That said, I'd like to see each class be playable and fun.

This is also an opportunity to show people a defined tangible perk for stretching to the $2k mark (other than bag check), and potentially if you're at the 2-3k mark, to stretch to the $4k mark (you get the full white backed set).

I'm not trying to be nitpicky, just trying to keep it fun for all who decide to get involved.

With that, I'll bow out from further discussion on the topic.

Shouldn't rose (colored) glasses makes all your weapons seem like +2, and monsters half sized?

Re: Feedback Needed on Relic/Legend Event Idea 10 years 7 months ago #276

Here are my suggestions for the two "fixed" tokens for each class. They are designed to assure that all the characters have melee weapons and armor for the adventure. Other weapon/armor tokens can be substituted so everyone has a unique weapon/armor, I'm just using the basic ones in most cases for simplicity. I did decide to go with the Defender and Footman sets so people can try to trade to get complete sets if possible. Also, if possible the Ranger should have three fixed tokens so that he has two weapons and armor. :-)

Barbarian: +1 Great Sword, Studded Leather Armor (or best Barbarian
Armor)

Bard: +1 Longsword, Footman Chain

Cleric: +1 Heavy Mace, Defender Plate Armor

Druid: Scimitar (or whatever the best Druid weapon is), Studded Leather
Armor (or best Druid armor)

Dwarf Fighter: +1 Silver Bastard Sword, Defender Plate Armor

Elven Wizard: +1 Quarterstaff, Robe of the Mage

Fighter: +1 Bastard Sword, Defender Plate Armor

Monk: +1 Bracers of the Dragonfist, Monk Robe (or best Monk Armor)

Paladin: +1 Long Sword, Defender Plate Armor

Ranger: +1 Longsword, +1 Short Sword, Elven Chain

Rogue: +1 Short Sword, Elven Chain

Wizard: +1 Quarterstaff, Robe of the Mage

Here are some suggestions for the random tokens in the 10 packs. They
include key items like shields, helms, and ranged weapons which aren't
covered in the fixed tokens. I focused on the Defender and
Footman sets, so that people can do trading to try to get characters
outfitted with complete sets. I included a number of key class-specific
tokens so that some group trading can be done:

1) Footman Shield
2) Defender Shield
3) +1 Long Bow
4) +1 Short Bow
5) Mighty Sling
6) Footman Cap
7) Lyre of Echoes (use this instead of other Rare Bard Instruments so that the Bard can take some sort of action every other turn)
8) Masterwork Thieves Tools
9) Wand of Lightning Bolts
10) Ioun Stone Beryl Prism
11) Greater Holy Symbol of Pelor
12) Boots of Free Action
13) Amulet of Thorns
14) Defender Helm
15) Potion Death's Door (this is fairly high value, but it has been
reprinted recently with a ton still in circulation, so it shouldn't cause a problem including it).
16) Potion Cure Moderate Wounds
17) Small Steel Mirror (it would be perfect to add some room specific items to the mix, and then include the corresponding monster - in this case a Gorgon or Basilisk or equivalent)
18) Set Unique Token - it might be fun for Jeff to create one or more tokens which are unique to this set, but can be used in the regular game without any problems. Maybe make it a surprise, people won't know about it until they see it.
19) Ioun Stone Irridescent Spindle
