In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Feedback Needed on Relic/Legend Event Idea

Re: Feedback Needed on Relic/Legend Event Idea 10 years 8 months ago #169

Jeff, take some time to consider about allowing the white backed tokens into regular TD runs. That way it won't prevent you from doing anything cool with the tokens because you don't want them to affect the regular game.

It would be cool as well if Tom Gowen could come back to DM. He was the dm on my first ever True Dungeon run.

I think, perhaps wrongly, that it would be better to keep the mechanics relatively simply and focus instead on a cool experience. I am afraid new character cards will be too much of a distraction.

BIG thumbs up on this! I agree completely.

Ha! Thanks. Sorry for the late replies tonight. Dwarven Forge is launching its own line of miniature paints next week...so as the sole employee I am crazy busy. They are going to be sweet though -- and turn everything on its ear like we did with Game Tiles.

I did want to say something here though. I really appreciate all the great feedback. I really do. TD would be a 1/10th of the event it is now if it was just my ideas. Y'all supply the other 9/10ths, and no matter how big my ego gets [which has gone to +3 status], I will always remember that. I guess you can say that I am smart enough to know to listen to smarter people. So, thanks for that everyone. You make me look good!

Thanks, Kim. Will do. And I will ask Tom. He is a BIG executive now who is a big-wig with a tele-com. I can still remember when he killed a player in Room 1 at So Cal. Go check out "Attack of the DMs" on Youtube. Tom is one funny guy.

This run does take away from the opportunity to do other runs. If the price is the same as a full run, I'd like to see the same opportunity for treasure (up to 3 stamps, and allowing enhancers like HoP, etc). If the price is the same as grind, I'd be fine with similar rewards as Grind.

I'm not sure how I feel about white backed tokens. Part of me likes the idea of a different type of token. Then the other part (my back, ) doesn't want to carry around any more tokens. If you're considering using white backed tokens in the future for items that aren't affected by being on different planes (and others are), I'd be ok with it. I'd rather not have tokens that have no future use. Lore tokens were fun, but when I'm short on trade items, I look at those as a lost opportunity for trade items. Balancing out relics and legendaries with normal tokens seems difficult to do without having a monster be too easy or too hard.

In short, I'd rather see this as a mini run with whatever you want and have the same price as a normal run and same opportunity for treasure draws, with the different pin and completion token.

I for one was ecstatic to see URs come back to the treasure boxes, especially ones that hadn't been seen for a while. I finally replaced my +2 long sword that was lost in the dungeon in 2010. :) I would like to see URs come back again, and hope you consider that for next year. I

'm sure others have already mentioned their feelings about relics in the treasure boxes, having seen on two occasions someone who was on their first run ever pull a charm of heroism right before my turn after I had made an additional token purchase to make one wasn't fun.

Hmm...maybe each part-time volunteer gets 10 pulls from the normal 2013 Treasure Draw, and a full-time 25 pulls. We have enough left over from 2013. I stocked it big because of all the AoW and new Charm.

The single DM all the way is a good idea except it still doesn't make the need for them any less.

I do think we should completely rework the adventure guild area as it only got used a handful of times as best I could tell and mostly because there was light, not because the tables were needed.

I think if it is that "Special"
Jeff should be the DM. That would def spark my interest more

As tight as we are on volunteers, this might be the case! I gotta tell you though I stink as a DM. Players rated DMs in 2003, and I was rated lowest. I don't give any hints and try to stay out of the way as much as possible. Oh...and I invented "TPK!".

Then I am def interested

Eric, Ken and I were on the first Dungeon run of 2004 in Indy. Tom was our dm and every person in our party survived the dungeon. I remember just how cool it was. I also remember going up to him at the riddle reveal and thanking him for being such a cool dm.

While I'm certain several of the forumites/tokenholics would be thrilled with this idea, I am very much against it, for the following reasons:

1) Not all the TD volunteers actually *play* TD. To them, a bunch of token draws would be relatively meaningless.

2) Random draws means that some volunteers would be well rewarded for their work, and some volunteers would be given very little for their hours of sweat & elbow grease. Adventurers who go into a dungeon know that not everyone will find the same treasures, but people who put their Summer Vacation on the line to help out TD, they should know what they are getting in return. It shouldn't be a crap-shoot.

3) The 2013 rare (for part time) and UR (for full time) reward token was a really sweet reward. I spoke to many volunteers who knew what those tokens were selling for, but said they planned to keep their because it was a unique memento of their TD service. Sorta like many TD volunteers still treasure their Ring of Regeneration despite the fact that no one uses them in the dungeon. A handful of last year's random treasure tokens is not the same.

BTW, Jeff: I have heard several folks say they are considering some part-time volunteering next year, just for a chance at the Vol. token :)

I agree with Raven that treasure draws should not be a part of the volunteer perks because it would be unequal.

I agree with Raven and Kim, an individual Volunteer Token would be better than a bunch of treasure draws for Volunteers.

Still, there must be something you can do with those treasure boxes you'll still have. Maybe give people the option of pulling from either this year's box or next year's box?
