In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

Adventurers' Guild Challenge (working title)

For every $2K purchased in 2014 a token collector would get a AG button that is their passport at the AG Bag Check. They will also receive a Coin of Traveling token that will have an URL on it. At this URL the player will see event info for the AGC as well as a link to reserve a spot on a AGC run. These will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.

When a player arrives at her AGC run, she will turn in her Coin of Traveling which will whisk her away to a distant demi-plane where only certain items exist/work. The player can take any Relic, Legendary or Eldrtich item with them, but they will also be handed a special bag of 10 tokens (has a white backer). These planar items will not be random, but rather fitted to the class they are playing. There will be a total of 20 different planar tokens that can only be used inside the AGC run. They won't work outside the demi-plane. These planar tokens will be of mostly mundane weapons and armor, but a limited amount of magic (like a wand or scroll) might be available. A bard instrument and thieves' tools would be included. Players will use Relics, Legendaries and Eldritch items to augment their characters further.

Players would face a 4-room adventure with rooms from past adventures (tweaked a bit for fun), and at the end they would receive no XP. They would get a different participation token and a Survivor PIN (not button) would be available. They would get to keep their planar tokens as a souvenir or for use the next year in an AGC event. Again, these planar tokens would not be usable inside any TD event other than future AGC events.

The cost of the event would be the same as a normal ticket -- payable with generics at the event start. The deadline to register for an AGC event would be July 1st, so any $2K purchases made after that date would not be eligible to play the AGC.

Thoughts?

So, based on this proposal it looks like that there were around 60 AG buttons handed out. I hope that will be the case next year.

The concept of white backed tokens is cool. Are the individual (character based) packs going to be too much work? I proposed a simplier version but am happy with the more complex (but character focused) version.

I am still concerned about the cost. Especially since it is only an hour. Can we have a reduced cost, I'd love to see $10 max but it still would be better at $20.

I also like the idea of web-based signup; that will prevent any non-qualified players from taking slots that should go to the AG members.

Is it still going to be limited to one per person?

We might be able to lower the cost to the True Grind level, but that would be about it.

The restriction on once per year would be lifted so anyone could play as much as they wanted so long as they turned in a Coin of Traveling.

The 10-packs would not be too hard to make...and many would share the same tokens.

jedibcg wrote: Jeff I think this is the best combinations of ideas yet. I have two questions/suggestions. The url. I hope you are going to use something so that not just anyone with the url can sign up. If you are then does that mean that only token purchasers can sign up. Secondly the price. $44 for a 4 room dungeon does seem steep for a reward to token buyers. $22 makes more sense if it is half a dungeon.

I know token buyers will trade and sell these Coins of Traveling, so each will come with a mundane sticker on its back with an unique code that would be used to verify their use.

Mike Steele wrote: Jeff, sounds very doable. Will you have more participants than you can handle at the $2K level? Perhaps this should be a $4K award?

Will there be token draws from this event? Do RoR/CoGF/HoP apply?

I agree with others that if it is just a 4 room dungeon, perhaps $44 is a bit steep for it, although you do get the 10 special white tokens which will be hard to resist :)

The exact funding level is a tough one...but I think ultimately the $2K level would be the sweet spot. We can always add timeslots as needed.

The treasure would be like True Grind.

The price is something that could vary from True Grind level to normal adventure level.

First come first server, not sure about that one, just make available enough runs to serve all that purchased the 2K level or better by a certain date. After that date of purchase the planar token isn't available.

Sorry, by that I meant the first people get first choice of time slots. We would fill up the slots immediately as people get their Coins of Traveling with their token order. So, at first, there might be a rush -- and then taper off as the orders slowly roll in in the Spring.

Jeff you should get some rest. You deserve it. We love that you chime in but want you well reseted so you can come up with all the brilliant plans.

Dark Jco. wrote: If they are just basic equipment that works in this demi-plane though then they should be allowed in normal runs, that way other players who see this mythical equipment would start talking about it.

Fair point...but I think it might be best to keep the planar tokens as AGC only to make it less complicated for normal runs. We might come up with some kind of cool effect that we don't want used in a normal run.

Dark Jco. wrote: Since the Ultra-Rare treasure boosting tokens wouldn't work on this demi-plane you could have a special token box for participents filled with just monster parts and out of print Rares and Ultra-Rares. Or maybe even specific cool treasures for each treasure stamp earned.

I think after last week, I am gun-shy of special treasure boxes. We did it a few times with Treasure Maps, but we should probably just keep it simple like with True Grind.

Brad wrote: instead of newer tokens with higher powers unable to be used in the main dungeons, why not make this a high level event.

I am guessing it is cheaper to print new player cards at say level 6 (or 7 with a plus 1 level token) and have more options that way.

That is an interesting idea, but I think I want to be careful not to negatively impact the perceived coolness of a normal TD run too much. I think, perhaps wrongly, that it would be better to keep the mechanics relatively simply and focus instead on a cool experience. I am afraid new character cards will be too much of a distraction.

I sent Jeff a PM with an idea to reuse the real estate for TD-Easy and planar runs, using the exact same rooms, yet making the planar runs epic AND be able to switch back and fourth on demand.

It does include an additional fixed cost, but the added new player runs would more than pay for it, while still enabling the planar whale runs. (Basically new player runs would help subsidize the whale run in ticket costs.)

If I had the volunteers to do it, I would like to staff the mini-event all day and run True Grind, AGC and whatever else we can think to do. We BARELY scrapped by this year with volunteers, so I would not hope to have enough staff to fully utilize the space next year. Maybe we can grow into it in 2015. Good thought.

Re: Feedback Needed on Relic/Legend Event Idea 10 years 8 months ago #165

Jeff mentioned at one point adding some UR level relics this year and many people disliked that idea. One thing I was thinking is that a Relic doesn't necessarily need to have a UR as an ingredient. For example, the Draco-Lich Claw Charm. Maybe now would be a good time to introduce a "4C" like Relic that used a full set of this years monster trophies plus a bunch of trade items.

Another idea a saw was doing something special with the character cards. With a known number of runs it might not be too bad to print a few special character cards for the event. Then it would be pretty easy to make up for any inadequacies by the lack of relic armor or weapons.

Death might be a serious possibility since stockpiles of Death's Door and Elixirs of Life would be useless.

I love the idea of bringing back the one DM per party thing. That would be a great throwback.

The single DM all the way is a good idea except it still doesn't make the need for them any less.

I do think we should completely rework the adventure guild area as it only got used a handful of times as best I could tell and mostly because there was light, not because the tables were needed.

I think if it is that "Special"
Jeff should be the DM. That would def spark my interest more

As tight as we are on volunteers, this might be the case! I gotta tell you though I stink as a DM. Players rated DMs in 2003, and I was rated lowest. I don't give any hints and try to stay out of the way as much as possible. Oh...and I invented "TPK!".

I think this is the best idea yet. My only tweak is to suggest to allow the white tokens be used while playing the regular game. It would be fun to have a white masterwork thieve's tools.

I guess we can do this...so long as we just make copy the power of an existing token. I don't want to create more stress for Coaches and DMs.

You could always make next year's full time vol item +treasure, I have a feeling you'd get a lot of interest ;) (note not actually suggesting it)
