In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Feedback Needed on Relic/Legend Event Idea

Adventurers' Guild Challenge (working title)

For every $2K purchased in 2014 a token collector would get a AG button that is their passport at the AG Bag Check. They will also receive a Coin of Traveling token that will have an URL on it. At this URL the player will see event info for the AGC as well as a link to reserve a spot on a AGC run. These will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.

When a player arrives at her AGC run, she will turn in her Coin of Traveling which will whisk her away to a distant demi-plane where only certain items exist/work. The player can take any Relic, Legendary or Eldrtich item with them, but they will also be handed a special bag of 10 tokens (has a white backer). These planar items will not be random, but rather fitted to the class they are playing. There will be a total of 20 different planar tokens that can only be used inside the AGC run. They won't work outside the demi-plane. These planar tokens will be of mostly mundane weapons and armor, but a limited amount of magic (like a wand or scroll) might be available. A bard instrument and thieves' tools would be included. Players will use Relics, Legendaries and Eldritch items to augment their characters further.

Players would face a 4-room adventure with rooms from past adventures (tweaked a bit for fun), and at the end they would receive no XP. They would get a different participation token and a Survivor PIN (not button) would be available. They would get to keep their planar tokens as a souvenir or for use the next year in an AGC event. Again, these planar tokens would not be usable inside any TD event other than future AGC events.

The cost of the event would be the same as a normal ticket -- payable with generics at the event start. The deadline to register for an AGC event would be July 1st, so any $2K purchases made after that date would not be eligible to play the AGC.

Thoughts?

So, based on this proposal it looks like that there were around 60 AG buttons handed out. I hope that will be the case next year.

The concept of white backed tokens is cool. Are the individual (character based) packs going to be too much work? I proposed a simplier version but am happy with the more complex (but character focused) version.

I am still concerned about the cost. Especially since it is only an hour. Can we have a reduced cost, I'd love to see $10 max but it still would be better at $20.

I also like the idea of web-based signup; that will prevent any non-qualified players from taking slots that should go to the AG members.

Is it still going to be limited to one per person?

i really like this idea. and the planer tokes i think are a great idea because then it should not mess with the regular TD difficulty. Even though i am not one of the big token buyers this sounds like a great way to reward the big token buyers and it sounds really cool. The only thing i don't want to see is it create more barriers between the elder and begging TD players or see it mess with the balance that the tokes have.

Even though it is better on paper, sounds less cool.

And why not let the planar tokens be used in the normal dungeons? If they aren't going to be uber strong, what's the difference? Might drum up more interest, too.

Jeff I think this is the best combinations of ideas yet. I have two questions/suggestions. The url. I hope you are going to use something so that not just anyone with the url can sign up. If you are then does that mean that only token purchasers can sign up. Secondly the price. $44 for a 4 room dungeon does seem steep for a reward to token buyers. $22 makes more sense if it is half a dungeon.

Sounds great--I'd be up for this version, no doubt.

Jeff, sounds very doable. Will you have more participants than you can handle at the $2K level? Perhaps this should be a $4K award?

Will there be token draws from this event? Do RoR/CoGF/HoP apply?

I agree with others that if it is just a 4 room dungeon, perhaps $44 is a bit steep for it, although you do get the 10 special white tokens which will be hard to resist :)

If it were just spending $44 to do a 4 part dungeon and get limited tokens that could only be used in that dungeon then $44 limit sound okay to me. If this is supposed to be a reward it sounds like paying extra for the reward for me. Unless there is another hour that we get to sit down and talk with Jeff. Though I don't know if Jeff could afford 6 free hours with how busy he is at GenCon.

I like the idea...

First come first server, not sure about that one, just make available enough runs to serve all that purchased the 2K level or better by a certain date. After that date of purchase the planar token isn't available.

Re: Feedback Needed on Relic/Legend Event Idea 10 years 7 months ago #117

im not really sure what i think of this newest version. part of me is thinking 'this is special, make it happen.' but then i start wondering if it is worth stretching for. 2k used to be my default, but i know i need to start limiting how much money i spend on hobbies if my wife and i are starting a family sometime soon (not pregnant yet, but discussing it), so additional purchasing will come from selling what i already have (either tokens or magic cards). and i dont know if this adventure is worth selling off the additional stuff to get my purchase to that level.
also, the fact that i know i wont purchase enough to take any of my group is a bit of a disincentive. at least the tranmute plan left it open to the possibility that i could make more than one. though, i suppose pairing it with the current year puchases does help to limit the number of people qualified to a managable number.

Another option may be to require each hero going into the planar gate to have a minimum number of certain relic/legendary tokens (perhaps 3 or 4). This in and of itself will greatly reduce those who qualify, without the complication of gate tokens.

But there would then be the problem of confirming ownership of enough relic/legendary tokens at the start of the runs, and what if someone actually doesn't have them? Hm. Well, it's something to consider.

This version sounds great. I love the idea of this retro dungeon for the big time spenders. An entry token for each $2k seems decent so that the really big time buyers can run with friends.

The special white backed tokens, if they are only usable in this event, should be slightly tweeked versions of the staple equipment, such as Thieves' Tools that allow unlimited retries but you must wait 30 seconds between tries or Monk's Bracers that allow that character to ignore a magical ranged attack once per dungeon. If they are just basic equipment that works in this demi-plane though then they should be allowed in normal runs, that way other players who see this mythical equipment would start talking about it.

Since the Ultra-Rare treasure boosting tokens wouldn't work on this demi-plane you could have a special token box for participents filled with just monster parts and out of print Rares and Ultra-Rares. Or maybe even specific cool treasures for each treasure stamp earned.

The $44 price tag is questionable but since it is a limited event it should be fine. The rewards might be worth the price tag and the fun is all but guaranteed. I think it might be interesting to let the player's actions or decisions in these extra runs affect the ongoing storyline in some way. Some sort of meta reward that isn't tangible but let's the players know this reward means something to this event we all adore.

I love the way this event is shaping up. I hope to hear more about this in the months to come.

I like version 2. I'm already thinking about how I can adjust budget to get from 1K to 2K. 4K is not possible for me.

I do worry about being able to add a 5th TD event and still volunteer.
