In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Class selection. First time and have some?

Re: First time and have some? 11 years 4 weeks ago #49

I was thinking, the problem isn't so much people arriving late as choosing late... I don't know if this would work, but what if there was a roster for the day in each of the coaching rooms? It would be a matrix with hours on one axis and classes on the other. Each will be used at most about 15 times each per day, so that's probably a managable number to fit on one sheet.

It could work something like this: say I'm a level 3 looking to play cleric on the 5:12 run, but I'm afraid my volunteer shift might run late. I go to the *:12 room early, find the roster and write "Brad M, L3" at the intersection of 5pm and Cleric, then dash off to try to kill a few hundred adventurers.

If it's on the wall it shouldn't distract the coaches too much, and the other players can plan without fear I'll barge in at the last minute and disrupt everything. And the onus would be on me to have an alt ready in case three other level 3+ folks diced off for cleric in my absence (coach rolling for me) and I lost.

It doesn't feel like it complicates things much, and could help resolve most of the issues we're concerned about. And no, it won't fix everything, but probably nothing will.

I almost always arrive late. It's the perrogative of holding all the tickets.

True enough. If the whole group has organized ahead of time then no rules or changes are necessary since there is no chance of conflict.

Though I understand the idea of a sign-in sheets of sorts. I would be afraid it would confuse folks as to thinking that class cannot be chosen. I don't have an answer or a fix, but I do think we have something that needs fixing or at least clarification. Just my two cents.

If a newbie comes in and wants to play cleric but a 3+ has called it and will be there in time to head in, then it can't be chosen as far as they are concerned.

Honestly (if it even needs solving, everyone I've ever run with has been quite accommodating (or I have if they are insistent)) the issue could be settled by just saying Lv3+ folks have first dibs until the coach starts filling out the card. Once the card is being filled out its to late to pull rank.

from http://truedungeon.com/how-to-play/item/12-rewards

3rd: 3,000-5,999 XP - You get first pick of character class before 1st and 2nd level players. (All 3rd level+ players will roll off for order of choosing.)*

* If two or more 3rd-level or higher players can't amicably decide who gets to play a disputed class, roll a die. Whomever rolls highest may play that character class. Re-roll ties. If nobody in your group has a die, ask a TD volunteer if they can get one for you.

Note: Being a higher player level than 3rd does not bestow any bonus to this roll. E.g., if a 6th-level player and a 3rd-level player are rolling-off against each other, they both have an equal chance at getting the character they want.

Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

I think everyone (though I could be mistaken) is okay with that and understands it. It is what happens when someone +3 arrives later than anyone else. How much later is just plain too late? Especially since we can get into the rooms (inn) so much earlier than ever before.

Yes I think that is the base issue that we are discussing is how late is too late to pull "rank" on a class, so as to not be disruptive to the group and coach.

Interesting. Looks like they've updated the XP page.

Anyone else notice they have posted the 8th level reward:

8th: 30,000 - 39,999 XP - Receive a specially designed True Dungeon label pin that touts your 8th level status

While it says 2nd level allows entry into True Grind, it's not really realistic to be able to check that. They might as well just put "No current benefit at this time." like they have for 4th level, but then I guess it would look too sparse!

Also 5th should also mention that you get access to the exclusive forum (rather than just a title).

It seems like it would help prevent ties if the wording was changed to say that players level 3 or higher get the first pick of characters, with the highest level players picking first. That is how I think a lot of people think it works anyway.

I'm not suggesting the change because it would help me, because even though I'm Level 8, we've never used this rule. Our group has always been really good about agreeing who will play what. If there is a disagreement and two people want the same character, the argument usually goes like "You go ahead and play him. No, you play him. No, I insist, you play him and I'll play someone else" :)

Plus, I like to play the Druid, and it's a class nobody else in my group wants. It was actually one of the classes my group didn't even use for the first few years, until I started playing Druid.
