TOPIC: Using an UR Weapon

Re: Using an UR Weapon 14 years 11 months ago #25
If nothing else, it'll be great to beat off any possible token thieves. Speaking of, I'll take the top token in the stack on the right, please!

If you cant keep your eye on your purps don't use them. It the sad simple truth. Proxy tokens could get out of hand and lead to fake tokens entering the token Market.

And that's why I would prefer that some sort of official proxy system be improvised and approved, rather than some people potentially having to clandestinely make their own. If there was an official proxy system (with tokens that were very clearly not real), then you wouldn't have the potential problem of people mistaking the two. If proxies are discouraged, then people will secretly make them, and have to make them more realistic so they don't get caught. If proxies are accepted, then the proxies don't have to be as realistic.
What is TD's policy on fake tokens to begin with? If I show up with a hundred fake TD tokens that look right under casual inspection, what exactly can TD do about it? I don't buy this whole if TD bans it people will just do it secretly so we should allow it. It sounds like one of those twisted sort of arguments for why we should make prostitution or spouse beating legal. Hell, people are just going to do it secretly if we tell them they can't.

If TD just said that anyone caught with a counterfeit either forfeits it or gets banned for life, we have no probs. This also protects anyone who got scammed with one, since they'd hardly deserve a ban and instead can simply toss the fake.

Wasn't looking to start a heated debate here, just lamenting a little. Thinking about it I should just play with the UR and not worry so much. An UR token costs the same to make as the lowest common and if TD stopped they would be equally valueless (other than for RPG and as mementos). So its long term value is really in its fun value and not any kind of investment.

Wonder if some glow in the dark paint on the edges and back would make them stick out in the dark?

The white sticker on the back with name/phone number is still probably your best bet overall.

That's a good idea. I hadn't thought of that, but I think I will put those on all the UR's my group slides.

i would say that 99.99% of the TD crowd is honest. that being said, the sticker with your name and phone number on the back is your best bet for protection.

Of course, if you've filled the whole group of eight with your own players, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I think it would be mostly those of us who grab an open slot where we can who would have to worry about someone swiping tokens from the sliders.

If it were possible to grab the entire slot....
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!

Oh, you still have plenty to worry about it.

Never lost a UR weapon myself, but I have known others that have. Most common problems seem to be:

- Slider falls off the table and the token goes you know where. Can happen if someone knocks your token off the board. And occasionally some boards don't have a bumper in the back and so your slider can entirely fall off. (Used to be a much larger problem in the past, less so now. But noticeably, during the secret level at True Realm, my slider fell off at the back of the board about 4-5 times, dropping my UR weapon on the floor each time)

- Someone forgets to pick up their UR weapon from the combat board. Remembers it a room or two later. But either isn't able to go back (GM's don't allow it) or the token is gone by then.
