TOPIC: Proof Ultra Rare Tokens

Re: Proof Ultra Rare Tokens 15 years 6 months ago #73
I think it's erroneous to believe that there are a plethora of color choices. We know black exists because previous black tokens were printed. there's been no indication that white even exists.

Knowing that the company being used produces poker chips and that the predominate colors encountered in poker chips are white, red, and blue, I was surprised to hear that black was used previously. Which token run had black backed chips Henwy?
Like ANYONE would actually SLIDE a PROOF token...

There has to be a way to keep that rarity safe and sound and put something else in harms way...?

i agree gary. proofs are super ultra rare and must be protected. i leave mine in my safe at home rather than run the risk of losing them in the dungeon.

A proof would be perfect for a chip holder on a chain/string.

I'm curious about that also, I didn't know of any tokens with anything other than the Gold or Plat backing.

Weren't the large denomination tokens done in a dark maroon?

I figured that should be the color token for proofs, but makes it difficult to tell which year they are from other than the little graphic on the black ring border of the token.

The prototype run was made with black backs. Some collectors have a few picked up from the auction and other sources.

Interesting, I hadn't heard that. Anyone have any scans to post, I'd like to see what they look like. I'm curious what "other sources" there could be - I'd think True Dungeon (Jeff) would be the only source.

That's right - George posted whether anyone was interested in trading for them, and I (among others) expressed interest, but didn't hear anything further. I hadn't realized they were on black backs. Are any still for trade, George?

Those black prototype tokens were CLOUT chips stuck with stickers. They were pretty cool and helpful to see the potential. There are lots of colors available -- including a copper metalic -- but I think black looks best.

BTW, we almost did some white tokens...but that is a whole other story. ;/

Then definately no proofs as weapons for me, at least with gold you have a chance of finding them.
Just bring a magnet on a stick. Easiest way to find tokens...
Mmmm, you know, you have a very valid point. Will definately have to leave the laptop at home when I do that, but it would definately work. I wonder how airport security will treat it. Would definately give new meaning to "sweep the room."
