TOPIC: 2009 Uncommon Tokens -- Feedback please!

Re: 2009 Uncommon Tokens -- Feedback please! 15 years 7 months ago #49

There seems to be a creep in the GP value of uncommons. The 75 amethyst used to be a rare and now is an uncommon. Last year there were 4 uncommon gold tokens (50, 50, 30, 25) for a total of 155 gp in uncommon and this year there are 4 (75, 50, 40, 30) for a total of 195 gold in uncommon.

I would suggest changing the amethyst to something of a 50gp nature to reduce the creep.

I took the 75 to be a typo - and it is really 25...??

looks very nice - and that is a good point - why is the monk able to use the halberd?

I am glad to see the armor thing worked out.

So the question returns to the bardic instruments, how will the past editions work?
Currently on the tokens:

Pre-Chip MWBI: +2 Dam.
2007-2008 MWBI: +2 Damage for all party melee attacks while the bard plays.
2008 WML: +2 damage for party.

Players guide and token guide disagree with what is on the tokens (esp. the melee portion of the '07-'08 of the token).
As for the monk and halberd.

If you are a fan of kung-fu movies it is not uncommon for monks to wield spear like weapons. Some are like the Long Iron Spear, but they also heft around some nice axe like weapons. But if we are to stay to 3.5ed rules it is not a class weapon, so I can see the argument against it being usable by a monk (who are limited to club, crossbow, dagger, handaxe, javelin, kama, nunchaku, quarterstaff, sai, shuriken, singham and sling (page 40)) But it appears that aesthetics is winning out over rules.

I imagine because they can use staves and the halberd is just a staff someone stuck a blade to.

Monks and Halberds: I am a 1st ed. AD&D guy, and Monks back then could use pole arms. All my monks used Halberds to chop up nasty monsters they did not want to touch with their Open Hand attack.

I'm pretty much indifferent. No one plays monks anyway :P.

I won't dispute first edition. I prefer it for most things too. It just seemed intuitively inconsistent for the monk to use an edged weapon.
