That did _not_ go well. The store was very badly managed, due to lack of experience, and it left a bad taste in many people's mouths. There were all sorts of crazy excess in the beginning and then crazy gouging at the end.

On the topic of too many commons. How about you assign a gp value to every common. rope - 1gp, etc. So you can always use them as cash for combos and such?
I think items like common weapon and armor should be issued to the party if they need it (like the coaches do now) so there is no reason to have these tokens in the purchased token bags.

To me, this in itself is a problem with the current way things are done.
I hear from Coaches how they hand out things like +1 weapons and Full Plate armor without batting an eye.
Gosh, I remember when I started in 2006 - gifts like that were UNHEARD OF!
Giving out Rare equipment like that makes buying such items worthless to people who spend actual money on tokens...why should we spend our money on it when TD is handing it out for free?

As for common eq...well, I think I'd have to say Power Creep here. If the +1 weapons are "so available" (via TD personnel or trade on the forums), what's the point in having common eq any more?

I don't know the solution and don't have time to think about it right now, but things do seem a bit off balance at present.
I think the coaches shouldn't hand out anything magical - the party has to earn those magic weapons!

They must have been giving out their own stuff, then. =|
When Jeff had us getting tokens ready for the coaching area, all we put in the box were greens...

John,

We had aprons full of GREENS - I never heard of anyone passing out REDS, and no REDS were supplied from TD!

G

Hmm...I did give some reds out to coaches to give to players. Wait, is it my fault?

well yes and no...I don't think we had any specific guideline saying Coaches could not take tokens from outside sources to hand out ...but I think you can see the can of worms we are now looking at because someone did. This sort of plays right into the whole - leaving treasure in the dungeon issue we saw in the past...while it might be seen as a nice gesture on your part - it is not encouraged because it changes the experience for people.

In my opinion, it would have been better had you placed the REDS at the ADMIN table, or set up in the hall out front and given them out to people looking into a bag for the first time.

Duly noted. I wasn't aware of the "leave treasure in the dungeon" discussion. Will give these things more thoughts in the future. Thanks.

It must be said though that it was a very nice gesture for you to do that.

Kim

Ah. Very nice guesture in deed, Roary. I like Gary's suggestions on how to handle it too.

Yeah. I remember in 2007 (and probably in 2006), everone was peering under all of the scenery in the dungeon, looking for hidden tokens. Heck, I do the same thing, although I try to do it quickly and without destroying anything. Being a volunteer, I have some idea what is meant to be touched/moved and what is not.

Having the party hunt for things that are not there can be very distracting and a waste of good time.
I saw many 2008 parties searching behind evry twig in the "in between room" areas when what they needed to do was quickly move to the next room so they had as much time as possible in that room.

It's very cool to think of TD Players/Fans/Forumites giving new players good eq though.
I heard a player talk about placing treasure tokens in the dungeon. It's one of those things that it's both cool and a problem.

Kim
