I got an ultra rare bauble for winning the 2007 riddle contest and the only reasons I keep it is because I did win it and it is fun to complain about it when Henwy is around. But, in the grand scheme of things it is a pretty crappy purple token. If anyone disagrees and they have a skull or the first segment of the rod of seven parts I'd gladly trade with them.
Henry,
I understand you were not able to trade as much as did in past years. Did you do more trading inside the Tavern this year? I having no luck trading inside the Tavern on Saturday but when I moved outside business picked up a lot. I think next year I will do a lot more trading outside the tavern.

FYI, in terms of smaller-scale casual trading, I found it easier to do in the Tavern. Most of the random people I approached outside the tavern weren't all that interested in trading. But it was easier to find groups of people in the tavern, see if they had a bunch of tokens lying around, and trade with them.

Results may have been different for larger-scale traders with actual stores!
Also people were able to buy single tokens in the dealer hall at the GamingEtc booth. So why trade when you can just as easily buy the tokens you want.
They had bins of tokens for 25 cents each that people could sort through, and up depending on rarity.
It's become easier for people to not trade at the event.

I took a look at the tokens for sale at GamingEtc and for the record, I thought most of the prices were rather exorbitant (IMHO). I was never tempted to buy any of them, even though I am always interested in decent bargains.

Given the choice, I'd say buying random packs for $10 would have been preferable to buying singles at the Exhibit Hall, unless there was something specific you really really needed.

I only know of one person who bought a token from GamingEtc and it was a Shambler Slime for $12 (it was late Sunday afternoon and it was the final ingredient he needed for the Medallion).

That case weighed a ton so I left it inside on the first table. I would then roam around in and out of the tavern, mostly making a circle between the inside of the tavern and those 2 big tables outside near the escalator. I was really sort of disturbed by how few people I saw opening packs of tokens. Almost none other than the one they were given at the start of a run. In previous yers, there would be huge piles of plastic everywhere as people dug through packs everywhere.

Interesting. I just sat in one place at a table between the stairs and registration. Maybe the time I did it was better, I was doing it at 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM on Saturday. Whenever things got slow, I would do a little "advertizing" but I had a fairly steady stream of customers. This year there seemed to be more demand for common and uncommon tokens (vs. last year) (again it might have just been customers who came my way).

I think next year I will make a couple of small signs with prices for people to see as the walk by.

I loved the laminated price guides. I may make a few myself for next year.

I beg to differ. The UR gems were never really a prize. Well, only to Raven since she collected shinys. She was just about the only person willing to trade for them. For anyone else, it was only worth little more than the listed GP value pretty much. I still have 2 750 GP diamonds around somewhere I never could manage to trade off.

I'll trade for UR Gems, and I'll give a 25% bonus on the GP Value. I've got all but two, it would be neat to complete the set.

Just proves the point there. It's just not worth much to people than a fraction over its GP value. I wouldn't mind swapping at least one of the spares for another UR gem though. Hell, at least then it woudn't be two of the same thing. A sapphire sounds spiffy.

As for the trading, I wasn't exactly hardcore about it. I didn't yell out advertising or anything. Mostly I just wandered up to any groups of people with tokens out and asked if they wanted to do any trading. I didn't exactly have a clear list of what I wanted and was mostly curious what other people were kicking around.

I know I may be in the minority on this, but I do like some permanence on some Purples. My reason is because I have a budget on how much I can spend per year on tokens and I have to equip 8 players. As such I focus on a few key tokens a year and hope that some I want will be around next year. Of course this strategy has draw backs (I was sad to see mithral chain did not make a return this year), but as long as some new ones survive beyond one year then I have hopes of getting it in the next year and still get lots of cool new 2009 stuff as well.

I think the yelling helped. But I will try to have some signs next year telling what I am looking for.

I'll gladly trade my 2007 sapphire necklace for one of those Skulls of Doom.
