Well, I was considering offering my "proof" tokens up for trade, perhaps to the tokenholics. If anyone is interested, please feel free to PM me.

JKW

What are you calling a PROOF? 2007 PURPS?

I think the 2008 stuff we all got are proof in name only - and the only real PROOFS will be PURP and come with a mark on the logo side.

I have scoured the 10 I got and I see no sign out of the ordinary...so these 10 will look like every 2008 token out there.

G

I could be wrong, but I believe Jeff called the tokens we've already received "proof" tokens. I figured he received them to review before giving a final "okay" to the factory for making the masses of tokens soon to be in our hands.

Do these "proof" tokens have any identifiable differences than what's coming our way? Not that I can tell. Does it mean they aren't "proof" tokens? Absolutely not. Just because a proof doesn't look any different from the mainstream product off the factory line doesn't make it any less a proof.

Just depends upon if anyone wants to collect these "proof" tokens or not. I'm not going to shoot for any more.

Well that would mean we need a ruling - just how many tokens were made into this definition of "proof?" And are we looking at one of each, two of each, an unknown quantity of each...you see my point - makes knowing what is a real "proof" vs just a regular 2008.

I'd just assume from a collectors standpoint that these are early 2008 tokens and the real PROOFs will be the PURPS that will be marked differently this year as opposed to 2007 PURPS.

Well, John is by definition correct, these are "proof" tokens that were sent to Jeff to verify they are correct - and I'm pretty sure Jeff has called them Proof tokens also. Gary is also correct in that these are probably identical to the tokens that are going to be sold, so it will be hard to tell them apart, unless you just keep them separate.

I agree - we are both right...

I think the deal breaker is that since there is no 100% sure way to ID them as something special (or other than a 2008 normal token) - they do not exist as a seperate collectible. The REAL "PROOFS" will be marked this year (cool addition over last year). And like last year the only purchasable "PROOFS" will be PURP.

I think I need an intervention...because I have thought this all out well before these posts...

Agreed. I didn't mean to be harsh with "absolutely not." I'm just not great at writing on the fly.

I didn't figure too many people would want them, expecially since it will be virtually impossible to get a full set - and impossible to tell them from the factory mainstream.
Just figured a few people might want things like the Star Sapphire (Raven). :) Wasn't sure who would give them more value than the mainstream. Honestly, before posting, I was contemplating giving them to Smakdown. Figured he might be one nut eccentric indivitual who mciht appreciate them as "proofs."

You know - since Jeff has a way to mark tokens as "proofs" - if he sends tokens out like this in advance next year, it would be cool if they were marked as proofs =)

Well I am a NUT for collecting the sets that exist...but I am having a hard time saying I need to collect something that I have no way of tracking for authenticity.

AND I think that is exactly why we are seeing a PROOF mark on the PURPS in 2008. Collectors (ok - just SMAK) have made a point of getting PROOF 2007 PURPS and as such we needed something on the 08 group to really protect and prove that a collector has achieved NIRVANA!

Trust me if I ever found a 2003 token was a 2004 with the star rubbed off - I would be hunting down a 2003 replacement!

Exactly why I can't in my heart call them PROOFS...

INTERVENTION PLEASE!
