TOPIC: 2008 Tokens -- PLEASE PROOF!

Re: 2008 Tokens -- PLEASE PROOF! 16 years 5 months ago #61

Regarding the Potion of Heroism...what if we made it a Medallion of Heroism that would act just like the Potion, except like the Wish Ring it would have a +2 to AC after 2008. It would have a space for it to be checked off like the Wish Ring, and then returned to the collector after it was turned in for the 4th level character sheet.

BTW, we can talk about my seperate non-token Rumor idea in a later post. Stay tuned.

The Wish Ring gives +2 to AC after 2008?

No...sorry. The Wish Ring turns into a 1000 GP ring after being used -- so it gets another purpose and the player gets to keep it.

So, the Heroism item would have another purpose after being used -- a +2 Amulet of Defense. There would be one little circle on it to check off to make it so. Feedback?

Well, I'd never use it, but then I can't see ever having an amulet that beat out the Horn of Plenty. If it was a Ring of Heroism that turned into a +2 Ring of Protection afterwards, that might work though. People without Horns of Plenty might really like it.

Would it still be a +2 Amulet of Defense after 2008 even if it wasn't used and the box wasn't checked off? Maybe you wouldn't even need to have a circle to check. Just say that it can be used repeatedly in 2008 to raise you a level each adventure, and that after 2008 it's a +2 Amulet of Defense.

Yup, that'd be a great compromise! I hope you don't get burned by the complexity of a level bump - you're almost adding 10 more characters. At least most of them won't be too awfully different from their 3rd level counterparts. If you do this, it'll definitely be my choice for PYP. Not everyone got a Horn, Mike =D

binia

It would have to be, I think.
What if someone bought tokens after the event, and got a "00" bag, with a Medallion of Heroism in it? It would be a major letdown if you needed to have that box checked off, and it wasn't. (Tho there's no rule against checking off charges on your own items, is there?)

That's a good point, actually.
Turning the potion into a Medallion of Heroism would decrease its use by the Tokenaholics, who will be hard-pressed to remove their Horn of Plenty (and the irresistable allure of more tokens) for a one-shot chance at 4th level.
I know I'd to it (at least once) but a Ring would have more of a draw among the high-level token purchasers.

EDIT for typos

I still dont get the point of having 2 common tokens that both heal 1pt. Its like having a MtG card that says discard this card to draw a card. I would say get rid of the cure minor. Its the enemy camp, potions should be hard to find. Or have the rations give +2 con -2ac for a room.

as a DM (for several years) so many people use the cure minors. the cool thing about them is you can drink them like water between battles and there are so many of them. However, the Orcish rations dont seem to have enough of a reward for it's penalty maybe make it +3 or +2 health and -2 to hit?

i like all the new tokens. the pictures really add something special. to me the ultra rare swords look like light sabers  but thats just the Star Wars geek talking. I hope i didnt ruin it for anyone.

I havent seen the wishing ring in a while and i'm not going back to look at it now but after the ring (or any other item) has been used why would anyone buy it for anything more than it's weight in gold? If it's weight in gold is worth 1000 if, infact, it is made of gold then there is nothing more for me to say.

6) Monks Mead and Orcish Double Stout will have Potion on them like 2007's dwarven drinks. May have to change it to Orcish Stout to fit.

Should we put something on Anti-Toxin or will that not be retrievable by the Belt?

It would be retrievable, but I don't want to change any old token designs. The Token Guide will list usable things as potions or other liquids that are quaffed. No oils or salves!

Bard on Broadswords? I agree its the same avg DMG (5.5 for the +1 Version) as the Longsword, but are they really Broadsword users?

Quoting the SRD
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/bard.htm
"A bard is proficient with all simple weapons, plus the longsword, rapier, sap, short sword, shortbow, and whip."

Same Kind of Question about the Cleric on the Flail
Again quoting the SRD
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/cleric.htm
"Clerics are proficient with all simple weapons, with all types of armor (light, medium, and heavy), and with shields (except tower shields). "

So while the light mace makes it in as a simple weapon, the Flail, as a Martial Weapon, should it really be in the realm of the Cleric? Or is it there to give New Player Clerics at least a shot at a +1 Weapon?

I would say pick a different slot, Or make is a Medal of Heroism that doesnt take a slot and gets pinned to your chest.

also, instead of just a standard +2AC after use, make it class specific. like +2 dex for rogue and bard, ewis for druid cleric and so on

I like this idea better, though are we really so adverse to just allowing the level to be retained so long as you have the token? I realize it's a somewhat powerful ability with more benefits than the average UR, but as everyone keeps telling me, not all URs are created equal, and I think we should have the opportunity to start leveling characters up, even if it's just by collecting URs. It's worth mentioning that there isn't the concern that this level up will put 3rd level spells into the hands of characters incidentally, since they aren't gained till 5th level...so still no fireballs!

Sorry to divert from the Hero pot, but I was thinking the purp Broadsword should be +2 to be closer in damage to the other purps since it cant achieve crit damage. Unless you can change out weapons as a free action during combat or it can still deliver crit dmg, then its fine.
