Hmmm... A Belt of Initiative could still work if you make it come into effect when the monster rolls a higher initiative than the party. Whoever has the belt on gets to go before the monster.  So it could be like this:<br /><br />Monster wins initiative roll...<br /> round 1:<br />Fighter and Cleric with BoI's attack (sliders are removed from board)<br />Monster attacks party<br />Rest of the party attacks (sliders are removed from board)<br /> round 2:<br />Fighter and cleric attack  ETC...<br /><br />Could make combat complicated, but just throwing out an idea.

That doesn't sound particularly complicated and is a good idea. It's my opinion that folks are too concerned with over-complication. That's not to say that over-complication isn't a valid concern (in fact it's one that I share) but I see too many creative ideas get tossed out just because it adds but the slightest modicum of complication. This, IMO does more to stunt creativity than help avoid confusion and game slowness.

The thing is, we need to be careful what to add.  If we add 2 things, it might not be a big deal.  If we come up with 8 great new ideas and try to implement them all at the same time, it's not fun.  And trust me, you don't want crabby DMs.  =D

I would suggest a rare Druid protective item. It seems to me that this class is a bit lopsided in that it is weak without the dragonscale armor, and a bit too mighty with it. I believe it was the correct course of action to remove this UR armor, but a less potent rare armor item would be appropriate as a druid only item.<br /><br />One idea is to add rare druid-only shapechange tokens with charges (4 charges like a wand of frost). One such token could be perhaps "giant turtle." The only differences between the druid character's abilities and that of the turtle would be listed on the token, and in this case, would indicate the turtle's damage potential around the ring just like any other weapon and in the center of the token, would be the special ability bestowed by the shapechange. In the case of the turtle, this might be +4 to AC. The token's ability would last for 1 room. <br /><br />Other Druid shapechange tokens could be created as well. Perhaps another into a bird, allowing flight. There may even be some uncommon variations of this idea.<br /><br />I know this is a bit different but it seems pretty simple and I don't see it over-complicating the game.<br /><br />Opinions?

That is one of the druidic specialties.  I seem to remember that ability starting at 7th level, and our characters are not there yet, right?  Kewl idea, though.<br /><br />gear - cartography supplie<br />gear - torch<br />potion of  Lightning reflexes - allows a reroll if a slide is a miss<br />potion of invisibility - acts as cloak of elvenkind<br />Dr. Jekyl's potion - allows character to play as a different class, with all of that class' abilities and stats, for one room<br />mystic pendant - usable only by spellcasters, answers one yes-or-no question per room/adventure<br />divining rod - allows user to find nearest source of fresh water (could also be used to test a source fo water to see if contaminated/cursed)<br />scabbard - protects a bladed weapon from a rust monster attack<br />treasure - bottle of wine - if consumed, gives +2 to fort saves, -2 to ref saves.  If not consumed, can be sold for 10 gp<br />

<br /><br />I don't recall when they get the ability, but it is a core power of being a druid (kind of off to have the druid class without this ability), and since the characters don't gain levels, staying perpetually at level 3 (at least that's what I've been told), I think it's better to impliment this power at 3rd level than never.

As I was swimming with Raven last night I came up with a neat token idea. I know it's been kicked around before but I thought I would try it again.<br /><br />Brown Coat of Utility: Allows the wearer to name and use any common gear token once per room of the dungeon. <br /><br />I was talking to Raven and she mentioned a couple of things but the one that stuck out was no weapons or rations(consumables) can be named because of the need to actually have the tokens on hand for all the DM's in every room. This way if it is limited to gear you only have say the token (see example below) and you get the use of it for that room.<br /><br />Example<br /><br />Player: "I have a Brown Coat of Utility and I need a Mortar and Pestle to grind this Golem's ring finger."<br /><br />DM: "Alright you can use your Mortar and Pestle to grind the golem's ring finger."<br /><br />Player: "Thank you, now to return Stoney here back into our barbarian!"<br /><br />I am not sure what level of token it would be though I am sure it would definitely be a Rare if not a UR. So I thought I would throw this out and see if you guys had any ways to tweak this token.<br /><br />Lady Myke

The only bad thing about the coat/cloak whatever would be what slot does it take?  <br /><br />I don't think people would like to give up +1 or +2 on saves to use that item...<br /><br />I suggest a small change - a Utility Pouch - this would be a ZERO slot item and not require the player to give up anything.

I'll admit, I'd love to have a cool item which would save me the weight of carrying a binderfull of commons into the dungeon.
