Thought of another one last night - 2 versions.<br /><br />Coin of Curing<br />(for those who like to take a gamble)<br /><br />common version - consumable<br />Flip the coin - on Heads, you heal 2pts damage - on Tails, nothing happens.<br />Usable by all.<br /><br />uncommon version - consumable<br />Flip the coin - on Heads, you heal 4pts damage - on Tails, you heal 1pt.<br />Usable by all.<br /><br />DM takes the coin after you flip, regardless of the outcome.

<br />Kind of an aside, but how about making the purp Ring of Protection stackable with the red one?  At least then the purp wouldn't be nerfed so bad.<br />

<br /><br />It would take me a while to find the post but (unless I misunderstood) Dave did declare that was the case before gencon.  The UR ring of prot and the rare ring of prot do stack.

Ahh, if that is the case, it should go into the Guide.<br /><br />For a perhaps a bad idea, what about cursed tokens?  Found only in the dungeon, only if you draw them or put them on.  With corresponding detect curse and remove curse scrolls.  Annoying (or amusing) rather than crippling.

Here is the quote from the guide:<br /><br />Item and Effect “Stacking”<br />For the purposes of TD game play all items with similar effects are permissible to be used together (e.g. armor, ring of protection, spells, potions, etc.).  Equipping your character with identical items (i.e. two identical things) is not allowed (e.g. two +1 Rings of Protection).  In addition things which occupy the same physical space (e.g. gloves and gauntlets) are not permitted unless there is specific allowance in the token’s description.  There are some exceptions which are noted in the descriptions of the individual tokens.<br /><br />A +1 and +2 ring are not identical so they can stack.  I really do not feel it necessary to spell out every possible do and don't.  The guide would be so long it would be ignored by most.
You should know better than to pick up a duck in a dungeon....

<br />The purple ring of protection is +1. The red ring of protection is also +1. They are identical except for rarities and year of production. By what you said they do not stack. Thanks for clarifying.

i had an interesting idea. of all the new tokens coming out make a "few" of them cursed, but jeff not tell anyone. cursed items are supposed to be indistinguishable from their normal counterparts. no special tokens are required then. you could have 3 cursed items, one for each day, only to be revealed by jeff on the morning of said day. he only tells the DM's or player coaches if it might need to be marked on the player card somehow. BUT the players should definately be in the dark.<br /><br />day 1: players may not know they are carrying a -2 broadsword. <br /><br />day 2: then the next day it might be the wand of magic missiles that strikes the closest party memberfor 1 or 2 points.<br /><br />day 3: the master work bard instrument takes on a persona of its own and continues to play on its own distracting the party, thus incurring "bad things".<br /><br /><br /> just a thought on cursed items.<br /><br />DM - "what do you know? the monster attackes you again"<br />player - "no problem. i got great AC."<br />*after a few rounds and  damage*<br />DM - "man, you just have no luck at all. he goes after you AGAIN"<br />player - "this is wrong"  :mad:<br />DM - "but you got great AC, remember"  ;/<br />*player walking out of room with 1 hp and grumbling*<br />DM whispers in his ear - "did you even think that +2 bracers could be a cursed item"<br />player -  =|

Unfortunately I think some people would be really upset by something like that.<br /><br />What about something more straight forward in the module.<br />Such as for groups going hardcore, they enter the first room and boom they get hit by a curse by some warding set up in the room. Much like in 06' where you were immediately knocked out there is no way to stop this event from happening.<br /><br />However everyone can make a saving throw against the effects. For hardcore the saving throw should be quite high.<br />Determine what effect you want, - to AC, - to Hit, - to Saves, - to HP, whatever.<br />New factor. Critical Miss. If anyone is so unfortunate to roll a 1 on their save roll the effect is DOUBLED, its hardcore afterall. IF the effect is really nasty than 1 1/2 effect or that person gets hit by something else.<br /><br />So everyone starts off having to save against something and this is something that will last the whole event<br />Such as if its HP, their total HP are dropped. SO if you had 20, for the rest of the game 18 would be the highest you could be. It didn't just do damage, it cursed your health level so you had a new lower maximum HP number.<br /><br />That would be so mean if a wizard critical missed and had to go through the dungeon with 8 or 9 HP. *snickers* Talk about hardcore! No one would take the wiz are on hardcore cause 1 hit could kill them. hehehehehehe.<br /><br />I think it would be interesting to see if Critical Misses were introduced into Save Rolls so there was an extra effect if they rolled a 1.

While many of the cursed items and hardcore ideas sound interesting, I find my eyes glazing over as I go through the posts and think about implementation.  Perhaps, it would be easier to just forget the "rules" for hardcore and tell everyone the DMs know what they are doing and leave it at that.  After all, if anyone of us wander into a magical dungeon and suddenly takes 3 hp of damage, why would we necessarily know what happened.

<br /><br />Smak,<br /><br />  I think that this could make a bunch of whiners really annoyed, so I don't suggest it. What might be super fun though, it to have a an innoncuous item/weapon in a room. The first person to pick it up is awarded a cursed something token, and has to use it to fight for the rest of the adventure. It would be an impediment for the adventure, but then something likely valuable to traders after the adventure is over. Or, if Jeff didn't want to do a token for it, it could be something that you have to carry in your hand while sliding. There was soemthing along these lines in 2005 and it was hilarious.
