Maybe if you get together a 500-bag order with the rest of the board, we could get a special second-run before June ;-)

Oh yeah - I'm in! I'm in!

How about a new Ring, like a Ring of detection that when starting out to show it to the DM in the training area and they give you a small UV light (idk how big the normal one is) built into a ring that can be used for the entire adventure, to detect poison, magic, secret doors, etc.

I was just thinking,
I was wondering why in gear there is no compass?
This is a standard item any backpacker or trail hiker, survivalist would have.
And could have possibly been useful in the chessroom for some people to get their bearing.
Its not like needle and thread is a token, where a steel flask cap could be taken, filled with water, and needle magnetized by rubbing against a sword or a loadstone gem to create a compass.

Could needle and thread be another possible gear item?
Usefull if perhaps say a cloak of elvenkind gets torn, or something like that?

I dunno, just tossing out ideas.

My impression is that while a compass is a common enough device in what could be considered fairly modern times, the concept of medieval role playing (e.g. D&D) is considered to be an era of fairly low technology and scientific knowledge.

There are artifacts (alchemical and magical) that approximate modern machines and technology. And there have been examples in both the game manuals and modules themselves of fairly sophisticated apprati.

Something as simple as the concept of a compass, let alone the actual device is not likely, however. Nor would the scientific concept be widely known. While I could believe that a fairly powerful wizard/alchemist might understand the principles of polar magnetism and thus would understand and maybe even create a device with a magnetized iron needle floating on a cork in a bowl of water, it is not a likely skill or knowledge of the average adventurer.

Such an item, could be a fairly rare arcane or alchemical device, however.

Back to the needle and thread, sure they could be items. I would like to find good (in game) uses for the items we have before adding more, however. Provided we can not find a good use for an item, replacing it with other more useful ones would be a logical step.

Thanks dave,

I admittedly know nothing, therefore I just toss out ideas. :)

Which DD (I will repeat) is a good reason why you need to go with us on an adventure! ;)

Dave,

My understanding of the compass, though, is that it was developed by the Chinese roughly 220B.C. and widely used in Europe around 11th century A.D. Given that D&D is losely based on Medieval/Renaissance times, the level of technology would have permitted the use of compasses, regardless of the actual understanding of the science behind the function of the compass.

Further, I seem to remember that the Compass is listed in the "D&D Arms and Equipment Guide"

Something to think about,

I've expounded why in the past that is not practical. I'm sure I do not need to enumerate the reasons again. I would kindly ask that you please let that drop, since I am not in a position to be able to acquiesce.
Please.

Now, now. It goes without saying that you are definitely valued and needed by TD but I am certain Jeff could get someone to cover for you for a couple of hours.

Dare I say, that I think it should be a REQUIREMENT for all volunteers to go through a dungeon at least once. Call it, "On-the-job-training". ;)

On that line of thinking, however, I was under the impression that the original compass systems were very large, expensive, and fairly exclusively used on ships and even rarely then due to the cost and rarity. A small handheld model was much later in showing up.

I confess, I have yet to do any real research on the subject, but it is worth consideration however as a potential token whether common or rare.
