Vorpal Dagger - Don't make that Wizard mad - he could have your head...

As for Raven's ideas - you know I was a SKUNK in an adventure once...a Familiar - that was the last weekend tournament I ever show up late for...Anyway - getting turned into an animal would be COOL.

If you want Keen to be part of it, doesn't a "sword of sharpness" (am I remembering that correctly) make more sense? It also has the added bonus of not being as powerful as a vorpal sword which, considering the characters are what 3rd level-ish, seems a bit much. It would be a long sword +1 with a permanent 19-20 critical threat range.

Ingredient idea (3 cauldron token):

Scroll: Keen Edge (x2)
Gem: Peridot
Long Sword +1
200 GP worth of Gp/Gems

The idea that I think would be really cool would be class-geared items:

Paladin: "holy defender" (3 cauldron token):

Greatsword +1
Scroll: Bless (x2)
Scroll: Protection from Evil (x2)
Holy Water (x4)
+1 Amulet of Armor
200 gp

effect: if wielded by a paladin acts as Greatsword +1, and gives a +1 to AC

Wizard: "Staff of the Magi" (3 cauldron)

quarterstaff +1
scroll: Shocking Grasp
scroll: Detect Magic
scroll: Feather Fall
scroll: burning hands
scroll: flame arrow
wand: magic missile
wand: melf's acid arrow
300 gp gold/gems

effect: Consumable - 5 Charges. The use of each Charge allows the wizard to
cast any spell (other than continual flame) that he has/had memorized...

Just to throw out a couple ideas...

Great ideas Raven,
but a cursed book
Will keep me slavin'
And I've enough silly songs in my head
That I think the party will want me dead.

Can you say supercalifragilisticexpialidocous?
No, but I can say docousaliexpisticfragicalirerus for double damage.

Time for a song everyone (to the title song of the Sound of Music)

The walls are alive
With the sounds of creatures.
They creep down the halls in search of prey.

Our city has sent us here to slay them.
There is no fear in our hearts today.

Our warrior's swords,
They are so deadly,
And our rogue is so sly.

From the hands or our wizard
Lethal fire will lighten the sky.

And if by chance
The creature stikes us
A deadly blow that threatens life
Our cleric stands prepared to heal us
From the wounds of our strife.

Whew--I think I'm already cursed. And I know whoever is graced with my dulcitone vocal renditions is cursed.

Don't need no book or even a stinkin' ring.
It would only end up in Gary's hoard
To provide additional bling.

Over and out
I'm goin' to pout.

Widseth
You know what I would like to see?

A CURSED item.

Sweet ideas, Raven. I love the idea of having a face-down token that could end up being a cursed item. Maybe the three-card monty idea somebody else had. One Ultra-Rare purp, and two cursed items *switchy switchy* and you get one pick. (Might be too easy, but I like the concept.)

- Cursed Ring of Curiosity (The DM may tell the wearer of this ring "Hey - You really want to step on that tile/open that chest/go through that door... and the player will. The only problem I see is that any damage sustained from setting off traps should be dealt to the wearer of the Ring alone, or this item could cause some inadvertent TPKs)

Don't you already have that, Raven?

- Cursed Book of the Bard

They actually had that one year. Bunch of useless and misleading clues, and you only had 12 minutes to soak it all in. *grumble*

- Raven (who secretly wants a Ring of Curiosity)

But totally doesn't need one...

Cursed items would be really cool for collectors, oddly enough, and probably not that hard to get from players who aren't collectors *evil grin*

Now, to cap off all the coolness, you'd have to add in Cursed Item Combos: Cursed Item + Identify + Remove Curse + [other resources] = Really Sweet Combo Item (ie. you fixed it)

Dunce Cap + Identify + Remove Curse + 3 arcane scrolls + 1 arcane wand = Wizard's Hat (which does something cool).

Now, I really like the idea of that.
The problem I see with a cursed item is, what motivates people from revealing they have them to the next rooms DM, other than peer pressure. I would think if you have a cursed item you would want to make the player want to at least try to use it because there is some chance of benefit. Kind of like a chaos item, or the way we did “specials” the first year.

You declare you are using your cursed sword and the DM rolls the dice, if it comes up “odd” then the item works against the player, if it comes up even it works in the player’s favor. Say a plus or minus thing. I also like cursed items that make things difficult but don’t really put the hurt on people. The “duck” for instance, which I forgot to put out this year, while frustrating for some was more fun than huge penalty. A remove curse token was used in several cases to relieve people of this accursed animal.

I like things that can be used as fun challenges, like:
1. All statements must be in the form of a question
2. You must phrase everything like Yoda.
3. You can not talk at all.
Etc.

Thoughts to ponder.

Dave
You should know better than to pick up a duck in a dungeon....

a cursed wand that puts you in a state of planar flux? and you cant hear anyone in the normal physical realm but you can speak to them, and you can hear what is in the ethereal realm. could be accomplished by a set of wireless stereo head phones and some eerie sounds/voices speaking/playing in the head phones :)

or have something such that when in the state of flux the player is able to see through the same process they use on CSI to see blood stains on carpets and such even after it's cleaned. Like a wave of light shined on an object which viewed with white light frequency like our eyes it still appears that it is dark (in the dungeon), but when you filter the spectrum to say green or orange, the object becomes visible.

you'd have someone shouting off things to the party and not able to respond or tell how loud they are. it would definitely give a cursed or possessed feeling.

Kind of like that little chest one of the first two years, where you opened a drawer and there was a colored potion in it that would do something - each drawer had a different potion that did something different. That was fun! Some of us got healed, one took a bunch of damage, and one shrunk and had to go the rest of the dungeon on his knees. Although like you say, with today's rules of one DM per room, there would be nothing stopping that player from just standing up before going into the next room...

How about this for a cursed item:

Stone of Silence

While you are in possession of this cursed item, you can not speak.
The only way to break the curse is to return the Stone to a different treasure box than you pulled the Stone from.
Tell your DM when you are about to do this.

Although one problem with something like this is that Token Collectors would never return them to the Treasure Boxes!

Good one, and I like the mechanic too!

I assume by no speaking - that means the CHAR and the player BOTH are silenced - right?

Totally agree - collectors would not put them back...but that would be a FUN way to do a dungeon...a "silent" run!

Of course if the no speaking curse impacts a spell caster - maybe they WOULD put it back in the box... hmmm - lots of choices - lots of fun.

Me likey!

Of course, if you cannot speak, you can't "tell" the DM that you are about to return the Stone to a different treasure box =D

I agree that most Token Collectors (myself included) would NEVER return that token to a treasure box - it goes counter to every instinct!
