Re: Factory Sealed 16 years 10 months ago #61
Arcbat,

I was sure not thinking of you when I posted that - sorry if anyone took that post too harshly.

It was in reference to my 100 GP sale of +1 weapons...and people targeting the higher ticket ones for re-sale profit.

The whole point of that sale was to quickly get some GP for reserve BARs and get +1 weapons into the hands of those that needed them, but could not afford (or wanted to pay) more than 100GP for them.

G

It was a very generous offer Gary. I am glad you did it because it made me look at my stock and realize I never got a +1 Bastard. And for me I need to outfit 3 people and one of them is a fighter.

it was meant to be mutually cool - I get the GP for the BARs and those without get a good deal in return...but thanks!

it was only when I started to get the "give me all your Longswords and BSwords" that it got a little ugly feeling.

but hey, can't say it was that big of a deal. I should have thrown a limit out there from the get go, similar to what TD does on some of the high profile things.

See - those rules and regs that seem strange sometimes - they are there for the "greater good."

Sucks that even people will do that in such a tight knit group.

I'm over it - let's put it to rest, OK?

It was a sale and I was not too verbal about the GOAL or limits...so at least I (and others) learned something.

True, I'll bet if you mentioned a limit like one of each item, or stipulated that you only want them to go to new players that need them, that you would have had few if any problems.

And you could always just say no. "NO TOKENS FOR YOU!" You could be the Token Naz... well, you know =)

That seems like the best thing to do. :)

By the way, I've really enjoyed trading with the folks on this forum. It's been a great group of people in my experience.
Well, sure. I guess, if you can't find anyone else. We need more suckers willing to trade me great stuff in exchange for crap.
Kim, yes that is a question on the feedback sheet.

Mike, I started to do some analysis based on the XP numbers from year to year but realized that there is danger with this. It is equally important to know "why" a person didn't come back which like you mentioned could be caused by a number of factors, not the least of which is just the fact that the person couldn't get tickets for that year. Still it would be interesting to analyze anyway, especially as a function of token sales.

I would guess though that veterans spend more per year on tokens than new players, even if they do have more currently. Its just up to us to keep the token mixes interesting and fresh to keep the players buying the crack tokens.

I couldn't agree more that it is essential to keep the token mixes fresh with a large turnover each year. I think the commons could stay the same with a few changes, the uncommons should have at least 30% - 50% turnover, I think the Rares should have more like 75% turnover, and each year I think the PURPs should have about a 90% turnover (maybe only a couple holdovers per year).

I think I've said this before, but if heavy turnover remains, I'm probably out of the whole token buying thing. Whether it's perception or reality, I don't feel like I can keep up with the current degree of turnover and I can't keep chasing the dragon. Given that my purchase level is not insignificant, ecspecially compared to the average TD-ite, it makes me wonder how many others have already reached that conclusion. If things don't stabilize a bit and power creep remains an issue, it starts to feel like I'm trying to empty a lake one spoonful at a time in the middle of a downpour. There's a fine line between providing a challenge and simply overwhelming people.

Re: Factory Sealed 16 years 10 months ago #72

I have been attempting to get a TD ticket for 2 years I still haven't been able to get one!!! so I have been a TD fan for 3+ years but been unable to go so I never bought tokens. I decided that I was going to purchase tokens and went for it. So I am only a new customer due to the fact I couldn't get a TD run.

Am I a new Customer or a returning one?

Well in the aspects of money given to TD yes I am a new customer, but if you look at it tis way if I would have been able to get a TD run prior to this I would have been a TD customer sooner.

I view myself as a returning customer due to the fact that a limited number of slots are available, several people "new", "returning" and (like myself)"new returner" effect the overall make-up of the people going through the dungeon each year.

Thats my thoughts Now where is that perplexing pontificating pixie?

Todd
