Re: 2008 Token Suggestions 16 years 10 months ago #25
I like the Wizard's Hat of Remembrance (get second try at planes of existence). How about this:

Wand of Wonder:
Has 5 charges, but can act as any scroll, potion, or wand the wizard possesses. For example, if you have a Chain Lightning scroll, you can burn a charge on the Wand of Wonder instead of burning the scroll.

The wand is an interesting idea but I think the wizards need some non-consumable class specific neato stuff (like the hat of remembrance suggestion).

Why is it you guys never toss out commons or uncommons.

For instance potion bottle/plain old large mouth bottle.
This is just your ordinary empty glass bottle with cork stopper or lid of some sort.
In zelda these were your best friends, cause you could put potions in them or other things just as fairies, fish, bees.
They allowed you to capture small things which had a later use.

These bottles could be used as an ingredient in future combos. Or used to capture something small in your dungeon run that get turned in for an ingredient for a later use in combo.
Such as underground frog/fish.
Sample of flora and fauna, later used for woad.

Think small. Not everything has to be big and shiny, it can be little and shiny. ;) :)
Oh and anyone attempting to put a pixie in a bottle would be very sorry. :P
How bout something like a masterwork potion belt - allow the character to consume 2 potions in 1 round instead of 1 (free action to retrieve the potion) or allow the character to drink a potion and still attack.
Thats why I mentioned the ability for capturing small things or collecting samples.
This is something that basically is all about the combo.
It'd be a common item like the mortar and pestle.

The bottle may be an ingredient for a combo available only potion.
Or to acquire things in the dungeon, you'd turn the bottle to the dm in return you got a dungeon only found ingredient token. Especially with the puzzle vs. combat style. If all ingredients are only from monsters that cuts down your ability to ingredients.
So there are perhaps acceptable alternative ingredients that could be caught/captured/found in a puzzle module.

You ever tried capturing a frog with a water skin or steel flask? The mouth is too small for anthing but liquids. And if you put plants in them they'd be impossible to get back out.
See what I mean?

And the alchemist pouch could protect such things from breaking during the adventure.

I think containers are pretty much assumed gear...sacks, backpacks...vials and jars...

I mean I know when I got my Ghoul Tounge - I rolled that puppy in several holy clothes and then put it in a jar with a air-tight lid...I tell ya - that is the last scent I want following me back into the Tavern...what with all the lovely wenches about!

But where on your player card does it say you have a sack, backpack, vial or jar?
Where are the sack, backpack, vial or jar gear tokens?

I'm just trying to point out an item that could be a common and some application it could have in the future in combo token like the mortar and pestle I suggested a few years back.
But then again what do I know about D & D, and tokens. I should probably just keep my trap closed and focus on finishing my ironing.
*flits off back to housework*

Oooooh, I really like that. Even if it just gave the ability to drink one potion for free, at the beginning of combat, that would be a cool item.
Right now, I barely ever use my Potions of Bulls Str., because I can do more damage in one round than I would gain at 1pt./combat round across the fight. It's not worth using a round to drink a potion.
