If you're referring to the 2007 Gauntlets of Ogre Might token, it doesn't say on it which classes can use it. So, whatever is in the Token Guide goes - although I'm sure most players will assume all classes can use it since it doesn't say otherwise.

Yep, referring to the Gauntlets of Ogre Power. On all other tokens, if there is a class restriction, it is specified. On tokens where there is no class restriction, nothing is specified and everyone can use it (e.g. Cloak of Elvenkind, Boots of Free Action, Amulet of Thorns, Cloak of Resistance, Ring of Protection, etc.)

So if Gauntlets of Ogre Power has a class restriction but nothing listed on the token, people are going to get confused especially since this is a new rule change and there are bound to be rogues, monks, wizards, bards, and druids that bought the Gauntlets last year and used them last year.

If the Gauntlet class limitations stands, maybe at each staging area, along with the other info, there could be an "errata" sheet, with notes to the players on tokens that might have some confusion. For the Gauntlets it could state what the class limitations are. It probably wouldn't be a long list.

That's another advantage of using the TDFans software program to outfit the party. When the Wizard (for instance) is filling out the form, it wouldn't give them the option of using the Gauntlets.

Mike

After deliberating much on this issue, Jeff has decided to follow the token, so to speak. That means GoP will be usable by anyone.

This does not mean, however, that in the future individual gauntlets, gloves, or bracers will not have restrictions, we will default to the token text itself to establish the restrictions. Jeff had originally intended to publish the Gauntlet token with the class restrictions listed and it slipped through in the proofing process.

So, for now there are no restrictions on Gauntlets, gloves, and bracers.

Now I am sure someone is dying to ask if older tokens, like the wooden Elven Chain will be usable by Barbarians since the older tokens do not have class restrictions.

We think it is fair to say that since the wooden tokens did not include any class usability info, no inferences should be drawn to mean that now all wooden tokens are usable by all classes. Please refer to the Token Guide for which class can use which token. For older wooden ones, we will assume the restrictions match what is now printed on the new 2007 tokens which have the correct class usability info printed on them.

It should be noted that a few pre-2007 tokens have been changed with respect to which class can use them (e.g., Elven Chainmail). Again, check the most up-to-date Token Guide for usability.
Woodies being subject to NEW usability rules is fair...good call there.

Some woodies that might require damage wheels (Thunderstone) are understood to still be the "old rules" unless each DM will have new TStone chippies to swap in when a woodie is used...but I hope that is not going to be the case.

I concur completely that it makes sense to make the class restrictions on the old woodie tokens match the 2007 tokens, since the woodies didn't have any class usability info.

Makes me wonder if the Gauntlets of Ogre Might will be discontinued after this year, to be replaced by Gauntlets of Troll Might (or some such) with the correct class restrictions ;/

Yes, for those older tokens like Thunderstone and Holy Water which now have damage wheels, we will defer to the text on the token which indicates they cause a specific amount of damage automatically.

I do not mind... too much.

The longer TD goes on the more difficult it becomes to add new tokens and rule sets and hammer out the details in a single conversation. Each new layer is, (to use a much quoted phrase), a pebble in the pond making waves and ripples throughout the entire rule set and game environment.

It will never be easy, and I do not expect it to be.

That is why I started versioning the Token guide.

Dave

Sorry - can someone update the following:

Token combo ingredient list...

Also I trust the token guide will update one more time before con - if so, great - if not can we get a summary of all the changes.

I've not been able to keep up on all the posts / threads, and if I am lost others might be also...

I would like to use the formula listed in the guide, yes the guide will be updated, at least once, before the event.

No, the formula for the combos will not change in the next version of the guide.

Thanks Jeff and Dave. Avoid any potential confusion with the Gauntlets is a good thing.

Thank you.

I hope to see these "rule" clarified in the next Guide version.

As they are now, they are too confusing.

Thanks much!
