TOPIC: New 2007 Token Guide Feedback

Re: New 2007 Token Guide Feedback 16 years 10 months ago #121

Gary is correct, only one net per monster. There are only two character classes that can use it anyway. If successful, the "net" effect is perminant for subsequent rounds, unless the monster takes a combat round to remove the net. Otherwise any subsquent round is at -2. (info for the DM training, Stuart).

Other effects stack, e.g. Wand of Slow.

Dave

I'll have to re-read. I just read the section on weighted nets and didn't see anything about only one per monster. EDIT: Looks like I read all but the last line, which would be why I missed it.

One suggestion I do have for the guide (perhaps two suggestions):
1) I like the format where the token in question is bolded and is at the top, left of it's paragraph. When the formatting is not like this, it makes it VERY difficult to locate informaiton about the token you're searching for. When looking for the weighted net information, I had to flip back and forth across three pages before I was able to zero in on it.

2) Perhaps there could be some sort of logical grouping (if there isn't already). For instance, I expected to find the Cat's Grace potion either with the Bull's Strenght (they have similar functions) or in alphabetical order. As I recall, I found it near the end of the potions and lumpted in with Oil of Holiness. Just didn't seem to fit.

Thank you for listening,

John
John,
Thank you for the input, but I only have the energy for one major update a year. The tokens are in the order they are because of the order I processed the images, and the order they were added each year. Bad way to do it, but that is that.

I did add a glossary in the back, so you can look up a specific token and see what page it is on.

As to not having a specific call out for the Weighted net, I only made a "token specific" description when I thought it was necessary. Most of the weapons were self explanatory, hence no specific section. It sounds as though I should make one for the Weighted Net, though.

Dave
No problem. Thanks for the efforts.

I'm one of the guys you call upon to standardize doco like this. Not that I want to do it, but, generally, no one else will do it, I'm meticulous about it, and I like to see things in a logical format.

At least now I know why there wasn't always a pattern to the entries. Thank you.

Hollar if/when you desire help with the beast.

JKW

Question on Weighted Net. Could it be used other than in combat? For example with hammer and spikes to cover a doorway (to impede a monster) or crevice in cavern or to put over a statue and wrapped with rope before it comes to life and creams the party. Could it be used in these ways by any class? Just thinking of creative uses of seeming common items.

Widseth

I do not see why not. My only concern is that this kind of use falls into a the category of DM judgment call. Some may allow it and others not, will discuss it some amongst the DMs (and Jeff). A lot would depend on the room. I would see that approach being beneficial against the Merlith a few years ago...

It would be a good idea for DM's running a room to try to come up with creative ways to solve puzzles/combats and agree on how to handle them.

Agreed, it is the "find a way to break it" mentality that leaves you prepared for the creative stuff players come up with.

Can the token guide show us the "Hammer of Foss Altus?" I think that would be great.

I know 2007 is long over, but one ruling that I got while in the Dungeon that hampered some of my planning was that Weighted nets were consumed like ammo when used. Since I had only packed one on my fighter and one for the paladin (or was it barbarian) we chose not to use it. So a note to that affect next to the Net write up would be good.
