TOPIC: what makes one a "tokenholic"?

Re: what makes one a "tokenholic"? 16 years 11 months ago #205
By the way - if we aren't allowed to use any of the token artwork, the True Dungeon name, etc. - are we sure we're allowed to put the token year symbols on the shirts? I imagine this was covered earlier, but I didn't remember seeing it.

I will double check with Jeff, but I think we can use those.

Dave
Like I said - I like the year on it, regardless of whether it says "charter member" or not, but it's cool either way. Maybe just the "2007" date underneath Tokenholics Anonymous.

One comment of personal taste - I think the token symbols would look better without the ".com" at the end. I don't think the ".com" adds anything since clearly the token symbols can't be used as a web address, and it looks quite elegant without the ".com", just the string of symbols.

I agree. "Charter member" would be kewl, but not necessary. Not having it would not prevent me from buying the shirt!

Brian

If you could also check with Jeff about the possibility of official True Dungeon T-Shirts with Token Sets on the back (like the 2003 Rares, or the 2005 or 2007 Purps) it would be GREATLY appreciated! I'll put my order in today =D

Thanks,
Mike

You know what would be cool for official True Dungeon shirts also, in addition to token sets? Class specific T-Shirts! The front could say True Dungeon, then the back would say the class (i.e. CLERIC) and then a selection of tokens (maybe 20 or 30) that go best with that class. I'll bet everyone in my group would buy a T-Shirt corresponding to the Class they play! One side benefit is it would give new players an idea of what tokens go best with their class - but mainly it would just be cool =D

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread ;/

Mike

Hopefully Jeff can confirm for Dave.

When I e-mailed Jeff the sample tokens Dave had created, Jeff indicated that we should not use established logos and should probably "stay away" from using images of actual (TD-printed) tokens.
Jeff supposedly saw the year icons on the sample (although could have overlooked that fact).
Jeff approved the use of pictures of "make believe" tokens.

It's like a retread back to the beginning and the original discussion for merchandise.

I think it's a bad idea for TD to sell a lotta items in the store in anything other than a pre-order basis. The risk of getting screwed and eating the upfront item cost is just too high. Look at the mugs if you need an example of that. If TD were to sell things then it should either be a manufacture on demand system, like cafepress, or through pre-orders. The former is easier from a accounting/manpower standpoint but the latter will yield far more profit on a per-item basis.

I would agree, maybe setting something up through GeekLabel, officially, would work. They have nice quality, and as long as you are willing to allow for simplicity, might fit the bill with some choice and customization. Again I will talk to Jeff about it next time we converse.

Dave

Another idea... 16 years 11 months ago #213

I've made a swag at drawing an xkcd style cartoon for the shirt (if you don't know xkcd then check out these: floor tiles , Tabletop Roleplaying , Hamster Ball , Mispronouncing and one of my favorates, Labyrinth Puzzle ).

This is quickly photographed and edited version (I.E. it kinda sucks...). If people are interested in it I can build a much better and cleaner version.

Chuckle. Thank you, Mike.

You should replace the angle with a wife. Actualy, the wife probably has more control over her husband if she really chose to exercise it.

JKW

Well, of course it's a business decision for Jeff & Lori & Company, but I don't think you're out that much up-front cost if you buy 10-20 or so (or whatever the minumum order is) of each shirt you're selling, and they can make a profit when they sell the shirts - plus the shirts act as advertisement for True Dungeon (and tokens if you make them a token related shirt, like the 2007 PURP set or a class name with some class appropriate tokens). If the shirts helped encourage token sales that would offset any cost right there. It shouldn't cost anything to add the shirts to the webpage for sale, and it wouldn't take much room to store them. I'd have to think there are a lot of token collectors that would happily buy a token related True Dungeon shirt - heck, Jeff could even run a poll on the forums to judge interest.

They had really cool True Dungeon shirts their first year, and those seem to have sold out pretty quickly. Two of my friends got one, and I'm wishing I'd gotten one too. (Hey Lori, if there are any of those shirts left, add one to my order =))

Mike
