They could even grow over the years until we have to fight them at the end of a story arc.

No, the key is nurture them and show them love and compassion, so that they protect and care for you when they are older...by burning down the villages of your enemies.

Random thought; would be cool if lesser and greater transmute to a dragon token, but the token is only usable if you turn in a certain amount of consumables or common items to "feed" the dragon; coaxing it to join you on the adventure.

The reality is I'd be happy if I sent my orbs transmute and got back a "baby pet dragon" (stuffed) that lets the player have a chance at talking through encounters with dragons.

It wasn't ever promised to be powerful and we heard him.
