TOPIC: War Maul of the Ancients?

There’s no good way I can see to make this happen.

Tossed in the Treasure Box? Odds are a number of them will end up in the hands of newbies who will either throw them away or get swindled out of them. (Post-COVID, of course).

Auction them off? Only a handful of people will have the GP to win the bidding.

Either way, there are thousands of players in the TD database. Sure, many are inactive, and yes it would be awesome to have one, but let’s be realistic. Unless you’re one of the dozenish players with McDuck-ish piles of gold, or you’re very very lucky, or you’re willing to trade away five-figures worth of dollars and tokens, you’re not going to get one. Ever. And neither will I.

And that assumes Jeff would ever want to go through the hassle of negotiating unique powers and recipes for each one again. There are reasons he stopped. And look how busy he is already expanding out to new venues. He’d have to put the brakes on that, which is a source of increasing revenue in order to spend that time on artifacts, which are not. In fact they cost money for unique art and lost opportunities. So for that reason alone I can’t see them coming back, and for the health and growth of the game I hope they never do.

But no harm in dreaming. I just think it’s more realistic to hope for back-to-back Powerball jackpot wins.

we combine our GP and nobody can get one :)

in 2011 GP hit 5 cents per gp...if it happened again. I would bet 10 cents per piece (or damn close)

Which could be nice for lower-income players with a few thousand GP stashed

Were TD to do this again, I’d recommend 2 of the artifacts be made.

Have 1 available as a charity auction thing to benefit some cause near and dear to Jeff and crew. Not gold - actual cash that goes to The American Cancer Association or to a family facing a tragic loss, etc i’m sure some people would complain that the item went to whoever dished put the most cash but who cares as long as it made a difference. Something like that could raise $10k-$20k pretty easily.

Have the second be a pure lottery. To qualify, you’d have to be at least 5th level (ie not going to someone who might never play again) and you get a drawing for completing a dungeon (max 1 per sungeon.) maybe make it a bit harder like you have to complete everything in the series then tuen in your completion tokens to enter (again limits on number of entries.)

Orr, even better, have the 2nd be something you have to discover IN the dungeons somewhere hidden so well that it may go years being moved from dungeon to dungeon when nobody finds it each year.

It would be kinda amazing for a recipe to be put in the treasure box for the teeth event.

1. one of the reasons for the artifacts, was to suck gp out of the game. so lets keep that in mind.

2. we DO NOT want to hide anything like this in the dungeon. in 2005 they hid the first URs in the dungeon, and yes the sets were damaged.
3. one was auctioned off for the katrina/red cross run for socal 2005... or was it 2008 or 9 or 7

how to reintroduce arcane recipes.... not sure of a way that is not going to be a nightmare for jmartin. getting one might be tough to do. whether you auction for gold, or ebay/cash for charity, or drop it in the treasure boxes. the drama starts after the owner is identified. i don't believe one can argue about fair in this situation. if you get one by whatever means, and you think a fair trade is dinner at st elmo's is fair, please call me. if somebody offers you $25,000 for it, why not sell it. perhaps a handful of legendaries is a good deal to you.
while they are neat items, none of them break the game.

I like the charity idea, but don’t just give it to the largest bidder. Sell raffles tickets - I would buy one, or even a handful, with cash. I probably don’t win, but at least it goes to a good cause.

It is HIGHLY unlikely that Arcane Recipes will ever return. Highly unlikely!

And while I can't see the future, I can tell you that in the extreeeeemely implausible event that they do come back, Arcane Recipes (or their equivalent) will definitely not be hidden in the dungeon. Players have torn up the dungeon looking for far less precious tokens. They also won't be in treasure boxes because (among other reasons) the odds are too great that a new player would draw it and in turn get %#$@'d over by an unscrupulous trader who knows what that kind of a token is worth. And yes, it's happened in the past.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
