Monster Trophies at Origins - Can we get an official response before Gen Con? 4 years 9 months ago #109

Would it be completely unreasonable to accept 3 of any other years bits in place of 2 2019 bits in the recipe?

I realize this wouldnt be ideal also, but might help those with a glut.

I should mention, I dont think we need anything, but it's just an idea.

I agree it’s not needed, but I like this kind of approach over anything else I’ve seen here - especially with people already having transmuted it.

I’d limit it to 2 per recipe so you don’t have people turning in 21 2016-18 bits for the Bead.

Then, at the cons according to our tracking spreadheets, it seems the monster bit percentage was considerably lower (I'm talking like a 10% difference).

I think it's wise to temper any expectations about what the mix should be.

i will look but i don’t recall that. nice that we still have the data to look.

I don't have a spreadsheet that goes back further that 2016 so I don't we were tracking back in 2015. That said I compared the data we have for all the cons and within each season the difference for Monster Bits between cons NEVER varies more than 5% (I think it was 3% but I don't have them up any more). Just wanted to clear that up. Though I may have misunderstood what you were saying.

I got the year wrong - this is what I was referring to:

truedungeon.com/forum?view=topic&catid=53&id=234348#234348

In 2016 it was proposed (announced?) that the monster bit percentage would be 35%

Subsequently it was changed to 25% or so and we found out at Gen Con by tracking or discussion with volunteers who made the mix.

Some people, self included, made plans, traded tokens, bought and sole treasure pulls, etc. on the premise of 35% monster bits.

This is why I was saying I think it’s wise to take everything re: the mix with a grain of salt and see what it actually is at the event.

As I recall we (or at least I) argued against having that high of MB. Maybe he listened would need to look through the thread because I don’t think that is what it settled on, but I could be remembering wrong.

Brad Mortensen wrote: No offense, but all the people who are suggesting “don’t worry, just buy more tickets” or “there will be plenty for sale later” are, IMO, totally missing the point, and don’t seem to understand why this situation is so upsetting to some people.

The problem isn’t that people are afraid they won’t be able to get a Bead.

Will be paying scalper prices for the bits they are missing, or will end up only being able to craft half of the tokens they've been building to for 4 years.

People with access to other conventions in the yearly cycle will have less issues since it's generally easy to get additional runs at the other conventions but adding new runs to your GenCon schedule at this point is not exactly easy to do.

These other conventions often have a need for more volunteers......

Perhaps those who want more can do more to get them?

I realize that everyone has different circumstances (family, job, income, debt, etc) but if something is important, there is a way to make it happen, or it isn't all that important.

So Wade,
Does that mean we’ll be volunteering together at Gamehole or PaxSouth? DM or coach?

I’m just hoping with the decreased supply of bits in the 2019 season that we don’t have Fleece or bits required for most of the 2020 recipes, that well help some. Also I hope due to this a Golden Fleece is not required for what ever the fragments give us a recipe for.
On the shortage could TD take the 2019 Bits being turned in for lucky travelers and add them back to the mix to help move the percentages up a bit?

I'd be cautious on modifying the recipe for the Bead of the Lucky Traveler because a decent number of them were already transmuted at Origins. I'm sure there is a fair option but that should be considered before making a change.

Everyone at Origins gets a soul coffer!

I'm mostly joking, but I wish the N3 completion tokens weren't the same horns from gencon. And I almost spilled my coffee when I saw the current soul coffer prices this morning.

I really did enjoy my time as a DM at GHC last year, and will be applying to do it again.

Also, I am not the person I was referring to, as I will travel to all 4 and just play the whole time. My point was for those who think the cons are out of reach, there are other options.

I have never coached before, and I'm not sure I would be good at it.

Now, adding up monsters damage taken and swinging back, that's right up my alley.....

Could be - although I was around then and paying attention and somehow never got the memo.

I'm pretty confident there was never an updated mix posted - which is fine with me.

I think my point is:
For a variety of reasons we'll probably never fully understand, the treasure mix changes sometimes compared to what has been planned or it was previously. It's unwise to get strongly attached to the particular ratios of treasure being any certain way.
