It can't really die. It doesn't have a battery in it. It's basically an antenna with data coded to it. Think of it like a barcode.

Is that really accurate since we don't know what type of tag is in these. If it is a passive tag, which is most likely then no battery. However if it has a active tag then it needs a power source (or a passive battery assisted tag). Or least I don't think it has ever been said what type of tag is in them.

I'm also curious if each one will have a unique RFID. It would be very comforting to know that if mine gets lost/stolen, that it might be able to be recovered.

As an aside, I could also see a unique RFID being used to enforce the rule of "You have to carry it with you through the dungeon." --> if you get your charm scanned in the training room, that tag could be prohibited from running again for 2 hours (or whatever the minimum amount of time it could be to run from the end of one dungeon back to the next time slot).

I wouldn't count on it. In your scenario, nothing could prevent someone from selling a CoA and then claiming it was stolen or lost.

This could be the first step towards eliminating physical tokens altogether, and moving towards virtual tokens!

Which we would all hate, even if it were marginally more convenient in some ways.

I had thougjt that also, about limiting it to one run at a time. I'm also wondering if it could be linked to a badge, so that whatever badge it was first used with at a convention, it could only work with that badge the rest of the convention. It also might let TD know how often each is used each convention.

Loaning of TE on a run you are on is allowed, so that would prevent that. I also don't know which of my 10 would ever be tied to my badge vs a buddies badge since they are all stored together.

I was thinking, for instance, in a case where someone is outfitting a group, all 10 (or however many they are loaning) would be tied to the badge of the person loaning them. That way they could be loaned out to anyone that person is running with.

That should work 100% of the time it's allowed. If the "owner" the CoA isn't on the run, that's pretty much the definition of loaning outside your group.

There are lots of things we could do, but I don’t think we should make life more complicated for average players without good reason.

While counterfeiters have proven to be untrustworthy, I think the RFID fixes that. We already check TEs in the coaching room, so the “temporal cloning” problem appears to be solved already. Doing anything else at this point seems unnecessary, and would just be annoying.

Time may prove me wrong, because criminals (and that’s what people who steal loot by abusing TEs are) can be clever.

In the fullness of time, I suspect all will learn to accept its differences. :)
