This idea has been put forward many times before Azzy.

The reason it is regularly discarded is because Dex is a powerful stat by itself: It's the basis for your AC.

If you want to go all-out Offense (a STR build) you need to sacrifice your Defense (equipping few DEX tokens) to do it.

But if there was a way to turn DEX into an Offensive stat, then you could stack nothing but DEX boosters, and there would be no downside.

Yup - gets brought up every year - I keep hoping something will happen.

There are a few ways it could be sliced:

1. Finesse weapon with DEX hit and damage bonus.
2. Finesse weapon with DEX hit and STR damage.
3. Finesse weapon with STR hit and DEX damage.

#2 exist already as "thrown weapons" - so I don't see any problem making melee finesse weapons of the sort described in #2. In fact, I think splitting STR and DEX on hit and damage is likely to lead to less degeneracy in builds.

#1 is probably too good, but could maybe be workable with some substantial drawbacks of one kind or another like: your damage bonus may not exceed 10 on normal, 15 on HC, 20 on Nightmare, and 25 on Epic. Or maybe "you can not equip ranged weapons or back slot items."

#3 doesn't make much sense in the current token ecosystem - it's easy to get a very high STR, so why bother also getting a very high DEX to maximize weapon effectiveness - just use regular weapons and boost STR.

I would say number 2 was closest to what I was thinking- with the intended function following more of a 3.5 version of finesse rather than the current 5e version. I hadn't really considered thrown weapons in there, since I kinda had just sorta mentally sorted them into the same category as mighty ranged weapons (even if it isn't a 100% accurate portrayal).

We spent years chasing the Icecrag Dwarves. I had a dream where the 2020 adventure was about defending Santa and his elves from an attack by the Drow.

I think I’m spending too much time thinking about this game.

Not to open that particular can of worms, but is there a reason the AC from the DEX bonus stacks with heavy armor?

Is there a reason it wouldn't? In 3.5E, Dex stacked with armor, though some armor limited it. That is not the case here for simplicity sake. And the fact it is not accurate in reality.

I think I'm going to refactor based on this...

Investigator's +1 Staff of Fuego
4-5-6-7-8-9 (Two hands)
May cast "Burning Hands" once per room. Does 2 fire damage (built into wheel). May not equip head slot items
Usable by: Wizard

Investigator's Bracelet of Reflectum
+1 AC, Prevent all damage from one attack and does 10 damage to the attacker (1/game). May not equip head slot items
Usable by: All

Investigator's Black Leather Duster
+2 to AC, +1 to saves, & -2 damage from melee (armor slot). May not equip head slot items
Usable by: All[/quote]

Investigator's Kinetic Ring
Does 5 Force damage to one monster (1/room). May not equip head slot items
Usable by: All

Investigator's set
3 item: +5 HP
4 item: May recast any damage spell as scroll the following round. Still may not equip head slot items

In 3.5 all armor had as part of their stats a "max DEX bonus" category. For most heavy armors it was super low (like 0 or 1 ish).
