Sorry all I didn’t see where they discussion ended with bard instruments And Earcuff of Inspiration since the tokendb says ranged for lots of them.

Actually, it's already working on the spell view, but is not reporting correctly on the main Virtual TD view. I will get that in the next update.

Sorry what is working exactly? I am attempting to determine if the Earcuff of Inspiration is still needed because I don't know where the discussion ended on that.

Can't believe I missed that discussion somewhere along the way. But after doing a search for older posts, I don't see where this question was clearly answered. Between the Bard character card, the PHB and individual tokens, there is inconsistency. The character card specifically refers to physical weapons, but some of the tokens like Magnificent Bard's Instrument and Pixie Lyre specifically say "melee and ranged attacks". Some tokens say +X damage to party, which could go either way and some indicate the bonuses apply to bardsong.

I guess it would be nice if all of this were consistently applied. I certainly wouldn't mind if Earcuff of Inspiration were no longer needed, especially after losing my Charm Necklace due to the relic/legendary. But, i guess I'm ok no matter how this is ruled since I missed the discussion in the first place.

My understanding, and the way the app is coded, is that slide-based-spells always benefit from Bard Song, relative to the slide. In order for any spell to gain the damage benefit from Bard Song, the Earcuff of Inspiration must be equipped.

There was discussion as Dave points out regarding bardsong affecting or not affecting range about how it is not consistent. Sounds like no determination was arrived to fix those inconsistencies.

I think there are actually two discussions:
  1. How bardsong affects spells
  2. How bard instruments affect spells.

The character card is very clear that bardsong affects "physical weapons only". But, the PHB entry adds confusion with the last clause in this sentence: "Unless specifically stated otherwise, a bardsong bonus affects both melee and ranged attacks—including spells which require an attack slide." The "spells which require an attack slide" clause contradicts the card "physical weapons only" statement.

Bard instruments, on the other hand, often make more general statements. For example, Magnificent Bard's Instrument says:
+2 damage for party Melee & Ranged attacks

Compare to Widseth's Legendary Lute :
+2 to hit & +2 to dmg w/Bardsong

In the first case, my understanding is that bardsong gains a separate effect (assume 4th level):
+1 to hit with physical weapons
+1 damage with physical weapons
+2 damage to all Melee and Ranged attacks

In the legendary case, bardsong itself is modified, so it still only has two effects, albeit boosted (assume 4th level):
+3 to hit with physical weapons
+3 damage with physical weapons

on iOS
in a monk (not yet tried others)
when I go to calculate, page 2, page 3, Done ... the Done kills the application.
when I go to calculate, page 2, page 3, back, back, done it works fine.

benrow's also doesn't allow +5 VSF in both ranged hands, not sure if that was intended or not, not sure how many have two other than Asher of his weapons though.

Announcing the release of the Character Generator App version 7.9. It is presently available on IOS and will be soon on Android (Google can't seem to get out of their own way, lately) The new revision includes the following:

- Remove the 2nd Head slot and 4th Ring slot as they have not been in use for a long time
- Added 2 Figurine slots, a Ghost token slot, and a Ghost Gear slot
- Bard Song now provides bonuses To Hit and Damage for spells
- Earcuff of Inspiration has been removed
- Add support for the Holy Avenger Lay on Hands bonus
- Add support for Monks use main and offhand weapons for Ranged Attacks
- Add support for Rogues to Sneak Attack on Ranged Attacks with the correct tokens
- Rework the Consumable view to allow setting more than one at a time
- Add Polymorph Potions to the Consumable list (for specific classes)
- Add Mad Evoker Charm support. Note it will automatically modify hit points when used
- Convert the d10+10 to hit rolls to using a file based d20 (see below)

During the event, you will be instructed how to enable the event functions. When enabled, the app will use a set of percentages to determine the To-Hit roll (1-20), based on the creature makeup. This will be different for every creature. Likewise, if the creature is not subject to Critical Hits or Sneak Attack, those numbers will not be provided, unless you have tokens equipped that allow for it, e.g. Bracers of Guided Strike. So, when enabled, if numbers show for a Critical Hit or Sneak Attack, they are valid. If not, such an attack is not valid.

The app is also taking into account any damage resistance due to type of attack, such as immunity to Cold or Shock. Those numbers will automatically be subtracted from the damage, based on the character build. For example, the character has +3 Cold damage on Melee attacks. The creature is immune to Cold, so 3 points are subtracted from the melee damage.

When not enabled (not during the event) the app reverts to a standard d20 roll for all To-Hit numbers, with Critical Hits and Sneak Attack showing up as appropriate.

One final change added per request of the TPTB. Ranger and Monk Offhand attacks are now impacted. They receive only 75% of the attack bonus. If a Ranger Melee attacks with +12 to hit. The primary attack is at +12, while the Offhand attack is at +8. This is to help simulate the difficulty sliding with an offhand.

Not certain how sliding would affect damage. The damage wheel is already random.

This only affects the To-Hit Bonus. Damage is unaffected. The To-Hit dice roll is also not affected, just the bonus.
