I DM'ed a Room 3 years ago that contained a Rogue Box. Myself and my NPC glanced in it on one of our breaks and saw a couple 1000 GP Tokens and a 10,000 GP Token.

Off the top of my head, the only collectible game (besides TD) that i can think of that has lasted since its inception is MtG. I'd say Heroclix, but they went bankrupt a few years ago before being resurrected a few years later.

Is Pokémon still around? As in actively having expansions coming out. If so, then there is another one.

Luckily!! What makes TD different and immune to dying is that you don't need Tokens to play. If the Token collectors get fed up with power creep and most Tokens being devalued over the years and they decide to seriously cut back on supporting Token buying, then there is a simple solution. Jeff can just slightly alter TD so Tokens aren't needed. Or he can decrease the amount of Tokens produced each year.

Obviously, that would hurt the pre-funding of TD. But, honestly, things will stay the same. Some newbies will turn into Tokenholics; some will never play more than once or twice; and some will play every year with just a handful of C/UC/R/UR Tokens. Basically whatever they get out of the free 10-pack and what they had from the previous year(s).

For example, my wife only plays 1-2 times when she is able to get to GenCon. She only has the weapon Token I give her. That is good enough for her. Although, she has more fun with a couple drinks in her. She says TD is more fun with a buzz.

or she has to have a buzz to be around you when you are nerding out....hahahahaha

I cannot fully deny that.

But, she can be pretty geeky herself when it comes to computer games, gaming in general and face/body painting.

Man I have never seen anything remotely that nice in the rogue box (best I've ever pulled is a rare, and there have been more than a few Commons in years past). Could that by chance have been on the year of Wirts cache (when the Treasure was over seeded due to an arcane recipe)?

We've never pulled anything nicer than a Rare token out of the Rogue box either, and we've had quite a few commons and uncommons as well. Which is probably best - if there were a lot of URs and other tokens in there, you might have a brawl over who gets to play Rogue.

Then you would definitely see a need buy out entire runs.

And find 9 people to do the run that are OK with not playing Rogue.

Did you ever play DnD and decide that your equipment was too good for the adventure and decide not to use it? Personally, I hope that token X can help me out when and where needed. To me, that is a natural part of the game.

Never played DnD. Equipment though for DnD is not purchased with real world money. It is eawarm in game.

Nope. Never.

Although, my 1st Ed D&D Krynn Minotaur doesn't need much in the way of magical equipment. Koraf only has 3-5 miscellaneous magic items at a time. 2 of those being Rings he lets his henchman Lucky Orc use from time to time.

True, it is real money going into it and possibly separating the high enders from the less well off -like me, with 6 children and TD not being my #1 thing I do. But I have won in-game items that I depend on sometimes. I won the Skull of Doom by winning an Arena quarterfinal, the Rod of Seven Parts Part 1 by being its grand champion. I drew the Bracelets of Zephyr from a treasure within the dungeon, and in our starter pack at WYC this year we drew the Rod pf Persuasion.

That's not entirely true. There are loads of players out there that buy their DMs new books or modules so that their characters will benefit, either through getting in game equipment or unlocking/accessing new more powerful abilities. So yes real world money does come into play on the power level of the character to some degree for some groups.

Then there are the DMs that allow the players to bribe them with real world things like cookies and soda, if you can believe that. LOL

So yes there are ways even in DnD to turn real world money into in game fortune.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!
