I think you missed the point of my post. Just because YOU can't afford it is no reason to be upset with the people who make it available at that price. You don't spend as much money as these people, why should you have any claim to this token?

Full disclosure: I've spent about $400 on tokens in the 7 years I've been playing. I enjoy the fact that there are uber expensive tokens to help fund this awesome hobby. Sure I'd like to own them but in no way can I justify paying what they are worth. Just like you and your Honda Civic, I get by with a couple purples and a few reds and they have lasted me many years of fun and excitement.

Agreed. Nor do I think it is stupid to buy a $200k Mercedes unless you can't afford one. There are people who can afford a $200k vehicle and if that's what they want to spend their money on then more power to them.

For example I doubt anybody would consider a billionaire stupid for spending $200k on a car.

i'll probably sell some body parts to afford my tokens this year...but it is worth it.

as for something intended to be a thank you to big buyers, that is cool. if there was't anything, that would be cool to.

i'll never paint a masterpiece or sculpt a "work of art" or write a classic novel or play pro ball. if giving TD a truckload of money for tokens lets me see folks enjoy a fantastic event AND participate as well, to me, that would be enough. i look at it as, "i helped to make this happen".

Then, when you transmute the Orbs, you get them back. The numbers make it impossible to use an orb in more than one transmutation. I'm ok with the orbs having zero power individually.

But, that way I would only have to collect 13 instead of 21 to have a whole set.

@Mike - PYPs are already too low. I cut my order in half last year versus previous years because of it. If they go lower, I may get out of buying onyx altogether. But I'm sure others will get in. Hard to say where it would shake out.

Brad, in general I'd say current PYP prices aren't too low because there are several people selling them at those prices. If this adds another $200 value, that could mean another $5 off per PYP, or maybe additional people buying the $8k package and selling PYPs. The option to buy 16 WYC tickets also adds value. I don't know if it will affect prices, it will be interesting to see if it does. :)

PYP are at the level that you need to order multiple $8k orders to have a chance at even approaching 'break even' on your investment. I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but I suspect that many of the big sellers (and I say that .. missing getting a dragon orb this year by an order or two) are maybe break even, or possibly at a loss year over year *BECAUSE* they are supporting TD out of pocket.

I think this is great. I don't swim in those waters yet .. and realistically .. I might not be able to .. rewarding the folks who drop for multiple $8k orders is OK in my book.

Stuff like this just further helps break my need of collecting. So, to that, I say 'thanks!'

Hmmm, need is a concept that's not very applicable to tokens either. ;)

Many of my friends would think me certifiable if they knew how much I spent on this game

@Jason - the economics of envy is shortsighted.

People get paid to make those expensive cars. Buying them creates jobs. And almost all current convenience and safety features on cars were first available as expensive options.

In 1983, Motorola sold the first cell phones for $4000, and they weren't even smart phones. You might have called the rich people who bought them "worse than stupid" when they could just drop a dime in a pay phone, but without them to fund the research, prove out the concept, and help work out the kinks in the technology, you wouldn't be able to do things like post on a forum with a much better model that cost 95% less, like I am now.

Jason Smith wrote: Matt: exactly. You said "You don't spend as much money as these people, why should you have any claim to this token?" I shouldn't. Nor should anyone else except the person who spent the money to earn it. Therefore, soulforge the token to the recipient. It was a suggestion I made to Jeff in my previous reply.

I'm not sure I understand why it needs to be soulforged to make you happy? Are you afraid you might be tempted to buy one on the secondary market if they aren't? I just fail to see how this affects you at all. If you aren't in the market to buy one, why do you care? Why do you care who owns one of these and who doesn't?

Jason Smith wrote: I would consider a billionaire perhaps not stupid, but worse, if they spent $200K on a car. That $200K could be spent on something far less selfish and far more beneficial for society, like any of a gazillion charitable organizations, medical research, etc. I sure a billionaire wouldn't need that car anyway... they probably have a dozen others already.

Same thing could be said for spending ANY money on tokens or tickets for True Dungeon. This is a luxury activity. A billionaire spending $200k on a car is equivalent to me spending $1k on playing True Dungeon. Yes that money could go to a greater good but on the other hand I think it is OK to spend a portion of the income that I earned to have fun. But now we are getting very off-topic. :)

No, he is saying what he spends on TD is the equivalent of a garage full of those Mercedes. :P

Jason Smith wrote: I'm sure Jeff could have come up with something else as a gift other than a new token set and a transmute that costs $64K and effectively is only for a select few, unless they care to share.

You are completely wrong - this is the perfect way to reward people that have spent enormous amounts of money to support TD. They deserve to have something extremely special and unique, and they obviously love tokens, and TD.
