Not anymore I bought her a chippy version.

This idea of magnets can make for a interesting combat where space is warped around the monster and Jeff uses sliders with your magnets in them in conjunction with magnets under the table.

The very thought is mind-alteringly terrifying. Not to mention a bit carnie-like - like those bloody awful milk bottles that were all three knocked down... by no softball ever?! Blurred emoticon lines to follow...

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to use. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to use once! Oh - and if you really need to think about whether you're going to use the fireball or the + umpty staff of butt-whooping - you're likely to find yourself full of arrows, or fangs, or nasty knives & swords and such. Next time try bowling over arm like a cricket player and adding spin, aim between bottle 2 and 3.

That Works for me :)

Also no giving Jeff ideas! Man is tricky enough already :)

you guys are having some very good ideas here, however, there are some things I don't know if you covered.

1. the cost of the sliders. they are not expensive, but far from cheap. how many does he have in play at any given time? 2 combat and 2 puzzle dungeons is how many, 300+?

2. some ALWAYS walk off/lost/fly away during the con. you got to have extras for these cases.

3. get knocked off table and cannot be found in a timely manner (12 minutes).

anyways, lets not add more expense than necessary. if the tokens are that precious to us (and they are  ) it would be up to us to protect them, and not TD.

did that come out right? :S

I think that came out just fine!
You make a fairly solid and logical point. And While as an engineer/scientist as well as a maker/crafter - I'm sure enough diggin' on the idea of magnetic sliders... they create a whole new realm of issues and concerns.

I'll add to your thought of keeping track/protecting as a thing that would be "up to us". The glow in the dark tape that some of us have been using - as long as it has had some decent light exposure first - goes a long way in the "boosts visibility" department. Second - I noticed, that from my SoP - I had managed a slight overlap where the ends met which when I placed the token in the holder so that the overlap seated against the wall of the holder first, and then pushed the rest of the token down into the holder... it created a bit of a wedging effect. Snug fit if you will. Now to remove it - I needed to cup my hand over the token and "thump" it slightly to remove... but my point - "many ways to skin cat".

Also - not that this sets precedent - but one artifact holder that I know of has his own slider (I THINK he does anyway). For higher dollar value weapons - (legendaries) would it make sense for personal sliders?
(Probably a can of worms - that one...)

Didn't they already try something like that, I thought?

And that was a great idea.

I would also be fine if TD approved a vendor for personalized sliders that met there specifications. This way you meet the requirements but you may have a magnet and no cost to TD.

Suggested that before. Was rejected on the basis of:

1) personal sliders would give us a chance to practice outside of TD.
2) personal sliders would slow down combat as most DMs aren't going to know who most of us are; the DM would look at the puck and instead of seeing 'Monk', would see 'Xavon'. Then instead of looking at the Monk line, they would have to somehow correlate the player to the character.

1) would that really make a difference? If some one really wants to get better they could play shuffleboard. Besides they can't practice on a TD board. With as many mechanics TD throws at us: sliding short on lines, sliding between small openings, and general big and small targets. I think this is a minor issue.
2) TD can mandate that the class appears in the same font and same size so it would not slow down combat.

My responses is just related to the reply that if protecting our tokens is not TD responsibility then work with us.

I play multiple classes, but if I could purchase a custom slider at a reasonable price I'd likely just buy one for each class.

Topic: Pucks

Actually I been wondering for some time why there's a set up pucks in each combat room vs each person carrying their pucks room to room. (like Smak)

I'm sure you guys have must have discussed this before? But it has always struck me as odd.

Why not give everyone their class specific puck(s) in the training room and collect them at the treasure/xp desk. No puck no treasure. If one doesn't get turned it then you know what class didn't. (It's a difference topic about player id's but if TD knows who was playing what class then they would be able to follow up on missing pucks. )

To me It's always seemed cumbersome.. The "OK guys it's combat, find your pucks, and move the spares… where's puck so an so… hey, you've got my puck". A monster sneak attacks the party and everyone gathers in a circle to figure out their weapons instead of just attacking?

I know this would add effort to the XP room but It would be one less thing for the room DM to maintain (are all the pucks here)

I still have lots of fun, just saying I've been curious why it’s the current way and not the other.[/color]

Yay 100th post!!!
