One could just as easily say PYPs are "free" because they're a lagniappe when you buy $250 in tokens. Rod segments and PYPs are both bonuses when you spend $X in tokens.
If X=250 then PYP
If X=1000 then Rod segment

I see what you're saying. I hadn't thought of it that way before, so thank you for expanding my mind.

Now I will step away from the internet for a few moments, and relish that feeling before the overwhelming urge to say "No. You're wrong, and I'm right, because REASONS!" gets me riled up.

(This is my standard response to almost any shift in my perception of reality. I get annoyed at other people for thinking thoughts I've never thought before. Curse you, Druegar, and other people who don't see the world exactly as I see it! .. Don't worry. I'll calm down again. Probably after a nice cup of coffee.)

Yes, it gets you the Prestige Class certificate, but only once/year.

* The Rod is numbered, and that makes it feel more unique.

I am beginning to think that is it. We just get a cert saying prestige class. I don't think there will be prestige classes :)

This is a Large factor in the reason there are more rings than rods. The rate of expansion for TD year over year especially in those 3yrs.

But, if that only holds if you always pick a ring with your PYP. If less than twenty five percent of the time you pick a ring then there will be more rod segments that year. And I think the rings were far from the most popular PYP choices.

The real question is whether more sets of the four rings were bought and transmuted than Rod segment ones were obtained (which seems to be around 80). And that probably boils down to the number of air rings since that seemed to be the limiting factor.

I'm guessing more than 80 air rings were selected as PYPs or gotten in 00 packs or complete Onyx sets, but I'm not sure.

I think you are correct as well but the big question is how many more than Rod's. Based upon the extremely small sample we have thus far it is not even 2:1 rings to rods. Need more data.

The limiting factor for Rods was Segment 1.
I'm sure the sales in 2008 were significantly lower than future years, so comparing it to the "ring years" builds in a flawed assumption.

But that was skewed by the Mithral Coin. So maybe the limit today is actually RoSP2, even though I'd wager more of those were available. Sort of what happened with the Fire Ring reprint, making Air the limiting factor.

But then, not every Coin was turned into a RoSP1. Some short-sighted people, like me, swapped their Coin for a HoP because, a couple years ago, it was valued higher. Today, the values of HoP and RoSP1 have flipped.

RoSP1 are more valuable that HoP today but after the rod cannot be made anymore I believe the HoP will again be of higher value so you may have picked correctly (unless you needed the RoSP1 to make a rod or were looking to make fast cash).

Oh, I don't regret it, and I got to use it for two years for extra loot pulls, so as of now it's neck-and-neck. That wasn't a HoP joke...

We should also keep in mind Jeff probably printed more RoSP tokens than there would be if we linked it to the number of RoSP:S1 tokens. They would make nice thank you presents for TD employees and really good swag for important industry folks.
