Say a rod was lost. Then let's say Bob found it. Bob not being cool decided to sell it to mark. Mark unaware buys it.
12 months later mark shows up at gencon with it.
Dave( the person that lost it) is his coach and notices that was the one he lost ...that will be a problem.

And it should be.

But also, the forum would have announced the loss somewhere. Bob probably knows it is valuable and still decides to keep/sell it, and Mark knows he bought it from Bob. I would guess that Mark (if not also Bob) would have seen the issue on the forum. After all, who is in a possession of a RoSP and then never goes to the forum to read about it?

there are more people than you think that dont get on the forums that are "big spenders" they have accounts, but it is Xp and that is it

If it can be shown that the final possessor of the item had a reasonable expectation of knowing that the item belonged to someone else before purchase you could get it back.

If I ever sell my RoSPs I will suggest and offer to the person a post here on the forums indicating the number and the fact that the token was legitimately sold. Given the fact that they are numbered they can easily be traced if someone steals one.
You can't fix stupid but you can TPK it.

All the Legendaries are numbered, you just have to break it open and read the number on the metal core :P

Very true but an item becomes 'stolen' if it can be proven by a preponderance of the evidence that the person who found it had a reasonable expectation of being able to return the item.

Since the items are numbered that burden of proof becomes much lower.

Case in point from a recent news story. A woman saw a man drop a money clip in a convenience store. She saw him drop it but picked it up and put it in her pocket. The man noticed he had lost the clip a few seconds after walking out. He returned and asked if anyone had seen the dropped money clip. The woman said no and so did the cashier.

The police reviewed the surveillance tape of the incident and charged the woman with theft.

So, that is why I said "reasonable expectation of knowing that the item belonged to someone else"

totally not disagreeing with you on that part

As I said..once the rod is verified..put it away. you wont need it anymore. Less a chance for a loss

That's not a bad idea. I did buy a completed Rod from Landspeeder_95, number is 171. Now it's official :).

If all of the legendaries were numbered it would be neat to be able to register them here, but for now I guess it only applies to the Rod...

For the record, Rod 119 is now in the possession of Stryker7. It even managed to safely traverse the United States Postal System intact. Phew!
