TOPIC: 2014 Quick Token Reference BETA < Feedback Needed

Re: 2014 Quick Token Reference BETA < Feedback Needed 10 years 4 months ago #49

True, but if someone wants to give themselves infinite hit points, they can do that too.
  1. The party card is already dense with information. Where would you put ability scores? How small would the typeface have to be to fit them in?
  2. Tracking ability scores would be a burden on the coaches who are already struggling to get everything recorded in under 24 minutes. (That's not a slight on the coaches. We ask them to do a LOT!)
  3. I think DMs have enough to police as it is. As a player, I'd rather have them concentrate on running combat smoothly and providing their awesome battle commentary than checking to see if Chet Awesomelaser has the necessary Strength to wield his Maul of Overcompensating.

Agreed Druegar. There are a lot of ways to cheat in true dungeon if people want to do that. Personally, I feel it would drastically take away from the experience.

With True Dungeon the old saying really is true. They are only cheating themselves.

As much as I don't like the idea of people bypassing item requirements like that from a coaching perspective I hope we don't have to start recording stats for everyone, some of those rooms are already really tight on time. Maybe just a quick note like "bow ok" where needed.

I didn't think the party card would be the place for that... I agree too cramped as is. The player cards have the stats already printed on them, one sharpie later and they could have the up dated stats.

But yes...ugh yet one more thing for everyone to track.
Probably best to just not worry about it.

That could work, but it would mean we need to keep Sharpies and ball-point pens stocked for every coach. Pens have a nasty habit of disappearing, so the idea of keeping twice as many of them handy could be a headache.

For now, I'm inclined to leave it up to player integrity, but I'd be happy to revise that stance if ability scores become an issue.

I can see some players asking if their charisma or wis or int got marked down "incase a room DM asks". Some players really like to make sure all their stuff is accounted for.

Its not a big issue currently because we only have a couple weapons and some spell boosters but there does seem to be a trend toward it and future token sets might have more.

But yes, what a pain. Even if you do have the sharpie you have to remember to update the stat and take the time to do it and often its already around their neck.

Sharpie ink rubs off the cards. Ruined a good shirt the year the cards had 4th level on one side and 5th on the other. The big sharpie X on the unused side rubbed off on the shirt.

Maybe a punch up at the check in desk. It would only be needed to be retrieved when someone had a restricted item. That shouldn't happen so often that it would be an issue.

oh if sharpies don't work its a total lost cause.
I guess those things are pretty glossy, but I didn't think it would rub off. weird.

Stickers. Like the round price tags you see at garage sales.

Using stickers is another solution we can consider if not recording ability scores becomes an issue.

Its not a bad idea actually. One more thing to do but it would work.

I like the idea of Branding Irons though... Its time to mark your Strength!
