If that is true, I can see people ordering in 4 Golden Ticket increments to guarantee a purple (and that might net 2 purples if since it is 120 tokens and that might catch the purple at the beginning and end of the lot).

That is why I ordered 4 gold tickets. I HATE TO GAMBLE, (that is why I play poker)

I'm really excited for my order to get here. Being a "poor" college student I could only afford 1 gold ticket order. Drat! ;)
Hi Lori,

Thanks for the explanation! It sounds, from the way you are doing this, that if someone orders 100 bags, they are almost guaranteed of getting a purple with their order, because you very systematically have every 100th bag with a purple.

After taking the time to organize just the tokens I bought, I can't imagine all the work you've done to do that to 60,000 tokens (with more to come after these sell out). You deserve a medal!!

Mike

Well, yes, and NO....(regarding orders of 100 bags being guaranteed). Initially, I would bag up 10 golden ticket bags at a time and toss them into a storage bin. Realistically, you could order 4 GT's and NOT get a purple. I pull the GT bags at random out of the storage bin, so if 3 of the 10 bags have a purple, you COULD get 4 and no purple. HOWEVER, once I ran out of those, if you ordered 4 GT, first I'm going to pick up a bag that contains 100 bagged tokens (guaranteed one purple) and then count the remaining 30 from an open bag.

On the second note you made, all 60,000 tokens were not printed initially. We can't do that to our local printer. They would freak! Instead, we take over a set amount and have those printed. Then, we start selling those. Then we take another set amount and have those printed. The second "set" is currently there and being printed. It should be done this week. Then those have to be "stuffed". So, when I got tokens done over the weekend before they went on sale, it was NOT 60,000 tokens! I think we ended up with about 1500 bags done, and then got more browns in Monday, and finished up that first "set". Hopefully that makes some kind of sense. It's really a crazy mess, but I do kinda know what I'm doing! ha ha

Lori

Lori,

Thank you so much for all you do. Your new baby will probably greet the world and have abacus skills already mastered. You will be able to bring friends in and say, "Have you ever seen a kid two months old who can stack blocks like that????"

Trembile,

I have a lot of tokens--more than I need for sure. Most of my "needs" are really wants for the bling factor, or consumables that I need to replace. I have only a few purps--a couple of gems, potion, and gloves of dex. (collected by my wife and I in the dungeon). I got only one in a GT purchase--the potion. Personally I think the real joy is finding a purp in the treasure in the dungeon rather than buying it. If you play smart, you can get through the dungeon with commons. If you play dumb, you can fall into the abyss and no purp in the world will save you. As you develop relationships with friends in your party, I can almost guarantee they will look out for you and help you when you have a need. Last year just before a hard core run with two newbie friends and three people we didn't know, Silkie (friend we met on another run), said to my wife--I think your party needs some help, you're pretty well equipped, but here is a +2 Longsword and +1 plate to help you out. She went in as a bling bling paladin. We returned the tokens after the run with a big thank you. Gary is always generous with spells and then potions and scrolls if need be. People at TD will surprise you. If you don't get a purp in your GT purchase--NO WORRIES--you got 30 reds--that ain't bad cause you can't use 'em all at once.

Widseth

Congrats, Doug!! (Whew, I barely beat you there. :laughing6:)

Lori, you really are amazing. And I like the way you do it. I wouldn't be able to just weigh out the browns either.

I think I mentioned this to Jeff in passing...

The commons seem to be the most evenly distributed of the three types...I have made orders were several of the commons are exactly the same count...and then the +/- difference is less than 3-4 which is pretty amazing.

GREAT job Lori...

I'm a practical sort of person. I figure the best method of distribution is the one that gets me everything I want :P.

Re: Tokens arrived! 18 years 3 weeks ago #46

i know i can get through the dungeons on just commons, rares, and reds. In fact last year my friend and i solved like 80% of the puzzles the group encountered without a problem. I am an avid adventure and puzzle gamer and so i can solve just about any puzzle(i am not perfect but i do pretty well).

It just irritates me because everyone seems to have something special that they can use in the dungeon except for me. I just seem to have bad luck getting one (which sucks). The one i do have is a consumable one and doesn't do much of anything for me (i have a purple potion of cure light wounds). In our first group a guy with a bunch of purple tokens took the first purple token(+2 Great Axe) we found (much to the chagrin of the rest of the group). So i have to say i am a little bitter about it when someone flashes 3 or more of every purple in the game (that they did not gain them in the dungeon but vultured them off of noobs as they came out of the dungeon). I am sorry if that hurts some peoples feelings it just irritates me just a little bit. I am just calling them like i see them(keeping it real as they say in the vernacular).

One way to help avoid the problem you faced would be to agree before the adventre begins to share all tokens with party members at the end of an adventure. With one of my runs with complete strangers, I got a purple token and payed each party member fair value for their share.
