Are class choice conflicts common enough to warrant that level of minutiae? These one-sheets need to be as simple as possible so the newbs don't get overwhelmed. How do you communicate the difference between character and class level without taking up a full paragraph?

Mike Steele wrote: Maybe some wording about choosing the characters as a team so that people as much as possible have character classes that fit them and that they are best at? I know there's not room there for all of this, but it might be nice to mention that some character classes involve memorization (Wizards, Cleric, Bard, Druid), the Rogue a physical skill test, and others skill in sliding pucks.

Do you think that's covered in section 2 with the text, "The backs of all the class cards have a description of what each class does and what's required to play that character."?
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

Jeff:

These are great! They've addressed nearly every concern my group had with the adventure start - and first impressions and all that.

Quick suggestion on coaches' lighting issues: Buy a case of those small LED headlamps at Home Depot - maybe $60; fit on head to keep hands free!
You still got hit points! Get back in there and fight!!

Jeff,

I like the new version, clarifying only one of each class and encouraging them to work as a group to select the classes.

I'm not sure how much room you have in there, but I could see value in having a poster also describing each of the classes in generic terms, including memorization for the spell-casters. I know that info is on the party cards, but I don't think people really all read through all the party card descriptions. Having the classes broadly described on a poster in the room might really aid in character selection.

Thanks,
Mike

Since you can have 5 Ioun Stones, please add two more circles.

Since you can have 3 Charms, please add one more circle.

I would also suggest adding a few circles in the open space on the right hand side for "Specials" that don't fit in any slot - for things like parts from the Rod of Seven Parts which effect your stats, but are slotless.

Jeff covered that very early in this pretty long thread. This side of the mat is just for people that are newer to TD and only have a pack or two of tokens. It has a more limited amount of slots for tokens because Jeff didn't want to overwhelm newer players, or make them feel badly because they had so few of the possible slots.

For people with more tokens than the beginning side can accomodate, the mat flips over and that side is much more extensive for people with a LOT of tokens :)

Ohhhhhhhh.... Sorry about that. Didn't mean to pile on.

Thanks!

No problem at all, it's very easy to miss key items in a thread that is this long :)

I agree with this. If you have the space, posters are great teaching tools. I think people are more likely to read what is in big letters hanging from a wall than what is on the back of the cards. I think a long poster with a generic image of each of the ten classes with a short description would look really cool.

Cool idea, but in practice I think it would be very hard for a party to ask questions of their Coach, when looking them in the face means they are staring into a bright light. Especially when those players are about to head into a dark dungeon. Not a great send-off ;)

Here's what I was thinking about earlier:

Now you couldn't use these pictures of course since I just grabbed them from Google image searches, but I just wanted to show what I meant. If you made a big poster like this for the coaching room it would show off all of the classes in a neat way. More information could be added for descriptions too.

Since I cant seem to post a picture of what I drew up in paint (flxes for mad paint skillz).... here is what I think of the mat design (simple).

I would suggest the order of the icons be changed up a bit. To make things simpler I am going to refer to the sheet as rows and columns.... example; presently 1x1 is Mele Mainhand 1x2 is mele offhand... and so on and so fourth...

Only change in column 1 would be to move Armor to the mid body, or 5x3

Column 2 - move Two Ioun stones to far right side (2x5 and 2x6)

Column 3 - add one Ioun Stone to far right (3x6)

Column 4 - 4x2 Neck, 4x4 and 4x5 finger slots

Column 5 - 5x1 Shirt, 5x2 Back, 5x3 Armor, 5x4 Hands, 5x5 Wrists

Column 6 - 6x2 Runestone, 6x3 Waist

Column 7 - 7x1 and 7x2 Charm slots, 7x4 Feet

If arranged in that order it may have a better flow to it (visually). Just my two coppers...

Feel free to move the Ioun Stone locations - they seem to be clutters at the top right but then again I have no strong feelings on that matter - x6 just means almost off the page to the right...

Also, "Wizard" would need to be renamed "Exotic Dancer."
