TOPIC: Individual token capsule / case / holder?

Individual token capsule / case / holder? 11 years 5 months ago #1

Has anyone been able to find an individual capsule / case / holder for tokens that fits well on all dimensions?

39 mm (1.5354 in.) diameter
3.5 mm (0.1378 in.) thick
11.5 grams (0.4056 oz.) weight

All the holders I have seen folks with are not thick enough to close and a 3.5 mm token. I am going to check out the local coin shops to see if any holder will fit (if they have them). I sent an email to air-tites.com. I will send off an email to www.coinsupplyexpress.com as well.

Have you tried looking at military challenge coin holders?

Some come with a foam insert like this that "adjusts" to the diameter of the coin.

Some come with little tags and a hole you can put a string through

I have tried both the foam-ring and "direct fit" styles of the Air-Tite brand of coin holder.

I prefer the direct fit, as it seems to create a solid seal but still has a thin space to get my fingernail in when I want the token out (such as a weapon I'm gonna slide).

At first I thought the foam ring would be better, as the extra width of the case could give it some length that could bend down slightly all around the edges of the token, thus making a better seal.

Unfortunately, I think the opposite is the case: The extra length of plastic creates a longer lever, so that the thickness of the token actually forces open the edges a little more. Thus, the direct fit size (the one for silver eagles), seems the better choice. I am not concerned with the sliver of space; I've never had one pop open, and experience tells me they are water proof even with the gap.

That said, the tokens are much more like collectable poker chips than coins. I have seen protective single poker chip covers sold as key rings. That may be even more secure.

According to this silver eagles have a thickness of 0.117 in.

Anyone know of a case that would fit a 0.1378 in?

Has anyone tried out this ?

Does it fit securely (all-the-way) on the thick way? Do you have a link for this item?

Yes, that is one that I'm speaking of, such as illustrated in the RoR example. It won't close all the way. A direct-fit version (without the foam ring) closes a bit tighter though, from my experience.

Jeff bought a bunch to enclose Relics in. I had them in the case at the con. Maybe an e-mail to him would get you the information on which ones he ordered. THey seemed to fit fairly well.

We have these. They work fine.

I am pretty sure this is what we use...although this does not have a loop at the top for a chain like the ones we have. Sorry...I bought a case many years ago, so I don't have the exact info.

Maybe they don't make the holders with the loop any more...
