TOPIC: 2006 tokens?

Re: 2006 tokens? 18 years 2 months ago #49

Believe me - I bought one EoL for 500 at the shop in SoCal...Kevin is a witness. I then traded it off much later for a PURP... Dont forget - the shop at INDY should be set-up for paid adventures only...so getting what you want, when you want it, may be tricky.

The EoL for 500 is a pretty good deal - that was guide price at the time - which I thought (and still think) is kinda low value...that is why I plucked one.

So - not to dwell on the gold thing...but I can't help but wonder what a noob feels when they get their bag with paid ticket and see only a 5GP gem or something...I mean I can imagine - I personally would like the challenge to trade off the stuff I would not use as part of my CHAR...the trading in the shop has to be the noob's biggest thrill right out of the gate. But after that and after seeing the guide prices for plate or +1 weapons...I dunno it might just feel strange. The thing I think helps that is the traders set-up in the tavern...I can't wait to see what INDY has in store as far as improved lighting and possible trade areas to help the new players.

You know I will have some gold with me for INDY - not enough to have swung the 2200gp sword deal you had - but I'll have some on hand just in case.

Actually, after reading this thread and seeing how little interest there is in Treasure Tokens, I have made an executive decision.

We will not have a 2006 printing at all. Tokens will no longer be for sale.

:O

Just kidding....someone call 911 and send them to Gary's house. Is he still breathing? Sorry, Gary. I didn't mean to make you have a heart attack...I do hope you'll forgive me some day!

Actually, we have been talking tokens a lot lately. I keep telling Jeff that he needs to get the adventures figured out so that he can get the print requirements figured out so that he can order blank tokens so that he can order the printed tokens so that I can get busy stuffing bags before the baby comes. I'm hoping that he will get the whole token thing decided by March and get those babies ordered so that I can get busy! I'd like to get as much stuff done ahead of time as I can.

Lori
I wish I lived down by y'all, so I could help out, but alas I don't (Northern Illinois, not Southern.) Anywho, I'm a damn fine researcher, if you need some legwork done.

As for the 5gp in the bag... honestly, they probably feel like one feels when they make a new character in D&D and are thrust in a big, bustling city. Overwhelmed. They can't buy anything, they can't do anything. All they can do is plunge into the dungeon, and hope that they survive, and bring some booty out with them.

The higher level characters (or, at least, the ones with the cash to be outfitted to the nines) don't have that overwhelmed feeling. Granted, they still think certain things are expensive (purples, mainly); but, they usually have the cash and other resources to pick up just about any item that they need for the adventure, if they don't own it already.

I like it. Plus, if that noob plays his/her cards right, one bag of stuff could be turned into 1 or 2 really useful items, especially if your red is impressive.

I would also add to Josh's comment that I think there is excitement and the feeling of danger with going into a dungeon with only a long sword, suit of leather, and a 1 point healing potion. Add to that, the excitement of beating the dungeon with your wits instead of your tokens and coming out victorious.

In a way, I envy the new player (no I am not giving away my tokens. :P )

I think I saw somewhere that Jeff plans to make an annoucement on March 22, give or take a day or two.

Thanks for the update! I was about to submit another "any news?" post...

I was a retail whore last year at Indy and dealt mainly with the magic shop and typically only for healing items. Any items I managed to snag or trade for were immediately turned over to the shops. Now that the shop is for active players only, I guess I'll have to join the trading world and hope that my OCD doesn't kick in and turn me into a raving collection completist...

since my friends have made me the keeper of the tokens, so to speak, i have a question concerning gold tickets.
if someone cannot make the timeline for the gold ticket run ( work, something pops up, etc.) would an auctioning off of their ticket be breaking any rules or messing anything up?

If you are a holder of a Golden Ticket in 2006 you can give it to anyone you wish. It is yours for helping to support the event. Last year we had a gentleman buy $1,000 worth of tokens and he anonymously donated his four Golden Tickets to four very happy gamers.
