TOPIC: 2011 Token Guide (version 10) feedback

Also FAQ #23 may be outdated with the new wording on the Ranger Player Card.

I know the FAQ is woefully outdated, I have it as a standing item to review the next time we get together and update, but let me know if there are other obvious specifics.

Wow, I must say it's extremely awesome to have the guide out this early! A round of applause for Dave!

Now on to the feedback:

Strange suggestion. I noticed that the 2011 guide is version 10. Why not skip a version and sync up version number with the year?

Page 52, Necklace of the Bay: breathe is misspelled twice as breath in the description.

Page 54, Note on Girdle of Hill Giant Strength: The Barbarian is no longer the only class to gain +2 to hit and damage from this item. I believe the complete list is: Barbarian, Druid (why?), Dwarf Fighter, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, and Ranger.

Page 59 & Page 62, Melf's Acid Arrow is listed on both of these pages with identical effects.

Page 88, Chaos Runestone: Should be missile weapons instead of melee weapons.

Page 90, Ring of Riches: typo "event" should be "end"

Page 92, Ring of Stunning Fist: typo "re-slid" should be "re-slide"

Page 92, Ring of the Deep: typo "breath" should be "breathe"

Page 107, Dragon Tooth Amulet: typo "concurred" should be "conquered"

Page 110, Morningstar of Smiting: typo "one" should be "on"

Page 113, Devil Horn: wrong picture, should be Minotaur Horn

Page 117, Trade Item Tokens: mentions the "war with Iuz" which no longer seems relevant to the current story arc.

That's all from my first read through. Great job Dave!

That is on the list for updating, I did not get a chance to have Brian correct or draw up another one. So hopefully for the next version.

I have thought about that and was planning to do it for 2012. I di not start doing the guide until 2004, but early on I did not stick with the major release number being increased each year until just a few years ago. Somewhere in there I indexed things a couple of times, I think one may have been the jump from text to text and pics. But anyway increasing by one to sync up with the year will probably happen, I just haven't decided to bite that bullet yet...

BTW, thank you to all who look this thing over. I am (and am not) amazed that every year more stuff is found, even if it has been that way for several years. You all are the reason it is as good an information source as it is. Goodness knows if were just up to this dyslexic engineer, there is no telling what kind of shape it would be in.

Re: 2011 Token Guide (version 10) feedback 13 years 2 months ago #18

No problem, glad to help. Here's more feedback from page 53 on (trying not to duplicate anything already mentioned in the thread):

page 54: Bracers of the Nixie - do these allow you to throw a hand axe underwater or only to use it in melee?

page 55: As BrainScan noted, the note about Barbarian getting +2 hit/dmg from the Girdle of Hill Giant Strength is out of date as multiple classes now get that. Just wanted to add that the note is repeated on this page in the item description and should be update here as well.

page 57: the Detect Secret Doors and Detect Magic scrolls still mention using UV lights. Those are no longer in place, correct?

page 59: the Identify scroll refers to finding Wands and Wondrous Items during the adventure. Does that still apply with treasure stamps?

page 61: the Keen Edge scroll calls out the Keen Scimitar specifically as not being eligible for the spell. Should expand to all Keen weapons (like the Keen Hand Axe)

page 67: Purify Water typo - "armful" should be "harmful"

page 68: the potions of Detect Secret Doors and Detect Magic again mention the UV lights.
Does the potion of Darkvision still grant a special lighting device?

page 74: Barkskin type - "tuff" should be "tough"

page 75: For all Polymorph potions, you may need to clarify whether their bonus to-hit is altered. Seems odd that a strong bear would be using the weak wizard's base melee attack bonus.

page 95: Wand of Detect Magic also mentions the UV light

That's what I have up to page 100.

Scott,
Thank you again, we still are mulling over the whole UV magic thing. I continue to leave it in until I hear differently from Jeff, but the prod does spark the conversation again.

nixie vest is listed under 'cloaks and clothing', and as such was put on the character generator as a shirt...shouldnt it be armor?
this is not a signature.

Inquiring minds want to know...

I was playing around with the excel character generator and saw that the Nixie Vest wasn't listed as armor but gave an armor bonus.

I double checked with Jeff on that before I rendered the document and he said only a 3 set power. If he state there was a 5 set power and forgot and you can find the discussion, let me know.

Here is its first mention.

Token Guide 2011 Observations

pg 9 Item effects and stacking.

With the introduction of the Ring of Protection +2, does a Ring of Protection +2 stack with a Ring of Protection +1 to grant +3 to AC?

Perhaps it needs to be reworded to be:
Equipping your character with same named items (i.e. items with the same name but with different bonuses) is not allowed (e.g., two +1 Rings of Protection, or a Ring of protection +1 and a Ring of protection +2).

pg 19. I think it may be advantageous to identify the damage types of the weapons. Blunt weapons are in their own section, but for peircing and slashing some weapons (like daggers) can be both so perhaps add a column to the class table might just say P S or P/S might be handy as there may be undead who are immune or take less damage to piercing weapons but take normal damage from blunt (skeletons) or resistant to blunt but take normal damage from slashing (zombies).

pg 26. You have two different images for the heavy crossbow (1st row column 4 and 2nd row column 4), so if you need the real estate you might want to drop one.

Pg 29 - the +1 Sahaugin blunt crossbow - can this crossbow use special ammo just assuming it magically transforms the bolt of lightning to being blunt?

pg 29 Thrown weapons, you make a general statement that thrown weapons benefit from dex increasing items. So I think you can remove it from the Holy water description

pg 34 I think we are getting in trouble with this Ammo/class table. With the addition of new crossbows (the blunt underwater one and the nixie light crossbow) classes that normally have not had the use of bolts now can. I think the ammo speaks for itself and the restriction of what weapon a person can use will filter out what ammo they can use.

pg 41 - the "and" for the Nixie shield should be an "an" as in "adds an additional one"

pg 19, 38, 42 - the set note for Mithral needs to include the 5 set bonus of undead bane.

pg 56 - Notes about scrolls - You might want to add a sentence - Scroll attributes, such as the energy they used, cannot be modified by any items.

pg 61 - Mage Armor - may want to add the Robe of the Arch-Mage to the list of things it does not stack with

pg 80 - Coral Cube -there is an additional period after the word Bardsong that needs to be removed.

pg 80 - Black pearl - now that Barbarians when they rage does not grant a strength bonus, that sentence may be removed. But perhaps in its place you could add Effects granted by the character card (e.g. the fighters weapon focus ability).

pg 80 - Coral Sphere - does this need the same wording as the Sea Serpent Scroll tube. "However it does not also grant the ability to talk or utter verbal components necessary to release the magic in a scroll."

pg 83- do we want to move the Tanglefoot bag to be up with the thrown weapons (pg29) like the weighted net?

pg 88 - Air runestone - may want to change to say Allows non-crossbow weapons to function under water, as crossbows already function underwater.

pg 88 - Water Runestone - may want to change to say Allows non-pericing weapons to function underwater as peircing weapons aleady function underwater.
