Molda, did your guide include store sales (like from GamingEtc's e-Bay store) in your price data? My experience has been the store prices are a bit higher, but those sales don't seem to show up in the completed auctions section. Without those sale data, any price guide will reflect price ranges on the lower end of the spectrum.
I feel the real value of a price guide is for newer players who want to trade tokens without feeling they've been taken advantage of. It gives them a way to judge how tokens relate to each other in terms of game value. (This is one reason I like the prices listed in gold pieces.) But when it comes to monetary value, the majority of tokens start with exactly the same price, $1 per token. The subsequent increase or decrease in price is based completely on the perceived value of each token, both to players and collectors. I think the token sellers would be upset because a token guide tends to limit how high the perceived value will go.
None the less, I think it's great that you are working to keep the token price guide current.
Kinda sorta.
When a sale is listed in my guide as a Buy It Now sale and it also has "# sold" where I normally show the number of bids, I believe it fits your question of Store sales. Early on I was not aware of those sales and often mis-reported the sale, but I'm on track now. I just hope I can keep up when the tokens start flying.
The original reason I began tracking sales was so that I would know when I saw a good deal or a bad one. To me, and I think most newbies, the bottom line and the easiest terms to think in is US dollars. How much do I have to spend and how much is that token? On one hand, the value of an item is no more than what a person will pay for it, but I have a suspicion that ebay actually pushes up the value by adding a bit of excitement that is inherent in auctions. To some, an auction is like gambling. This factor causes a certain percentage of people to bid more for an item than they would pay for it if encountered on a store shelf. But in the end, the price paid is the real value, even if it is marginally inflated by dreams and fantasies.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity! (Luckily I'm only half.)
