Re: Two Types of token bags in 2010? 14 years 8 months ago #49

as much fun as sorting tokens is, i agree that it does become a chore.

that said i'll stilll have to stay with the normal packs. i enjoy opening/sorting/counting/etc. all of it together makes it like a box of chocolates...

To make the 4d calculation easier, wouldn't it just be a Random Trade Item Token based on the percentages with which the Trade Item Tokens are created?

Yeah, the chance that you will get a type of trade item token is independent of the chance of actually getting a token.

Now we need a math major to figure things out. I play cards with one. I just need the data. I then can see if he is willing.

corrected my counting error

Okay let me see if I have this straight cause its before noon and I don't usually do math before noon....you have a 33% chance of getting a trade token (worth 25 other tokens some common and some uncommon) and you only have to give up the chance of getting 6 other common tokens? That's a pretty good deal isn't it? Maybe too good?

What about a 12 token bag that costs $30...you give up 18 tokens (still less than 25 and potentially still getting the trade item made from uncommon tokens so still a very good deal) and you get....

3 - Slot 1) Rare
6 - Slot 2) Uncommon
2- Slot 3) a) 50% Uncommon GP token equal to average GP earned by drawing out 7 tokens from the 40 Common token pool TIMES 300% (33% X 300% = average GP Common draw for 1 bag)*
b) 50% Uncommon healing token equal to average heal earned by drawing out 7 tokens from the 40 Common token pool TIMES 300% (33% X 300% = average Healing Common draw for 1 bag)*
1- Slot 4) a)99% Random Trade token broken down in percentages that equates to the current percentages of gaining each token based on drawing out 7 random Commons -- so there would be a better chance to get some more than others)
b) 01% 100 - 100 Ultra Rare

I could be totally off but this seems still a good deal, still cuts on shipping, and more equitable...but the price change could cause for other organizational difficulties...just an idea throwing it out there

Jennifer

Limiting the Trade Item to those that can be made with 25 commons will probably simplify things a little. Even if there is an alternate route for Parchment, for example, it's still worth 25 commons. Aragonite, Oil of Enchantment, and Elven Bismuth would be out, but you are still getting Uncommons and Rares, so you could still make those in the conventional way.
2- Slot 3)
1- Slot 5)

Told you I shouldn't do math before noon...I apparently can't count to 5...sigh...

Jennifer

oh hey post 100 =D

I've advocated this a few times but I want virtual tokens. Think of it like those web-only MTG cards or for other CCGs. You buy 'online packs' and they tell you what you got. You never receive a physical copy of the tokens but you get a certified checklist of some sort which states what you own. Put a hologram or something on it so we don't get ridiculous counterfeiting. Then all you need when you walk into the dungeon is your little certified tokensheet with your name on it.

Or, a tradein that works the same way. You can convert your tokens to certificates. There are certain items, especially consumables that we don't need the physical tokens for. I send in 50 cure light wounds potions and get back a certificate for 50 cure light wounds tokens. I take it into the dungeon and the DM holepunches it everytime I use one. THe benefits here is TD gets to recycle those 50 tokens and I actually bring healing back into the dungeon. The past 2 years I haven't brought a single consumable in with me due to the ridiculous weight of it all.

I did a back of the envelope calculation based on this year's tokens, and this is what it looks like to me:
based on the 40 item sheet of commons, there are 5 armors, 5 scrolls, 8 items, and 10 weapons (making the spiked buckler an armor since there are less armors available) and 5 untradable items.

I am assuming here that 1 light bag is even with 1 normal bag.

So, to make the 4th slot even with the "heavy" bags doesn't seem that hard.
4a (gold)(1/3) avg gold per common = 2.75x7 commons per bag x 3 (since using this slot only 1/3 of the time) = 57 gp, so give a 50 gp item, and once in a while (ideally would be one in 7 bags) maybe seed in a 100 gp item
4b (healing)(1/3) avg healing per common = 0.05x7 per bag x3 = 1, so give a 1pt healing item every time. Note I am not including the healing for fairie water here, but could easily be included if thats what would be fair.
4c (trade/ect item)(1/3) so, for example, avg armor trade token per common = 5/40 x 1/15 = 1/120 x 21 is roughly 1/6 similarly scrolls, 1/3 for weapons, and 1/4 items
so, this would seed (per 72 bags) 4 armor tokens, 4 scroll tokens, 6 item tokens, and 8 weapon tokens. 2 slots left over maybe for the untradable commons.
To make it easier on Jeff and Co who will be making the bags, we might make it 2 commons and 1 extra uncommon for 75 bags, instead of per 72 bags??
4 d (purple) 1%

(edited for spelling, and a math error)

The addition of next year's trade items could make up for the untradeable commons from this year's set.

Holy cow, this seems unnecessarily complicated. I know I would prefer the regular 10 packs - however, I am not a BIG buyer, so the input of others would be more significant than my own.
