TOPIC: New Category of Challenge

New Category of Challenge 16 years 1 month ago #1

So far you got Mental Puzzles, simulated Combat, Coordination...

Have any of you ever heard of a ROPES course (aka COPE course)? having at least one or two challenge based on this would be an awesome addition to any True Adventure event.

I've played through a couple ROPES courses - they are really cool.

We'd have to be careful about liability issues, but that is a very good suggestion.

not all ROPES challenges need be dangerous... here is an example of a completely safe one that might fit well with a magic theme:

That is cool, but now we can't use it because it was posted on the forum and everyone will know the answer

Lee,

Even with this listed on the forum, it could still be used. The goal of the challenge is self control and calmness, not really solving a mystery:

The group needs to eventually to calm down and slowly, patiently lower the Helium Stick - easier said than done.

I would bet that the GM would even state something about "You need to work as a team, be patient".

Knowing that it may be in there may ruin some of the surprise, but wouldn't necessarily make it any less effective.

What are the challenges of keeping a stick filled with helium for 12 hours a day for 3 days straight? If we get a helium machine, does this mean True Dungeon balloons are not far around the corner? HA!

LOL

Good point!

Might be an interesting way to give out freebies... Attach them to helium balloons then drop them from the balcony to the masses waiting below.

But wouldn't the helium balloons float away if you tried dropping them on people? :)

Depends on how much weight is on them.

Since Helium only has a buoyant force of about 0.067 lb/ft^3 it wouldn't be able to lift much - it would more likely just slow the fall...

For more information, take a look here (http://science.howstuffworks.com/helium2.htm) .

I was playing with helium balloons at a party store one time, to see how much they could carry. I took something very lightweight - a small paper decoration weighing probably less than an ounce - and tied it to a balloon. It fell. I added more balloons. It still fell. It took over 20 balloons to put that tiny little paper-thing at neutral buoyancy. It was amazing. And I was very skeptical of the guy who tied helium balloons to his lawn chair and went for a ride.
