TOPIC: Fun With Themes

Fun With Themes 18 years 7 months ago #1

It was joked about have "True Pirate" as the next spin off to True event for next year. However, I thought a pirate theme for True Dungeons could be fun. Avoiding pirate traps, finding pirate gold, exploring a ghost ship, etc. Though, this might end up feeling like an adventure based off of the movie Goonies.
For fun, I was wondering what people might think of for other themes for a True Dungeons adventure.
How about:
- Adventures in Faerie Land- magic abounds
- Assisting Dwarves in an underground war against Orcs
- Restoring an ancient Elven city
- Helping a Human prince escape
- Stealing a dragon egg (or goblet) and running away as fast as you can

What else?

"Fifty dollar Bill!"

I think you could also do Sci-fi versions. It could be set in the claustrophobic halls of a space freighter infested with aliens.

A friend of mine had suggested a cool idea for a LARP set in a space ship, where players move from room to room trying to fix mechanical problems, fight off space-crazy crew members (or aliens), and solve a mystery (who sabotaged the ship?). It struck me that such an adventure would actually work reallywell as a TD-style adventure. People would have to work in limited space and limited time frame, moving from room to room, and trying to do it all quickly before the ship runs out of air. You could set it up a lot like a True Heroes scenario.

Hmm.... maybe some other decade, when we've all got enough volunteers.

Just to clarify, I was meaning a theme for a regular True Dungeon adventure where you would still be using Fighter, Paladin, Wizard, etc. classes and a fantasy setting. What would you like to have your adventure party doing? This year it was helping a wizard friend out with a problem. Last year it was saving a town from lizardmen.
I too liked the Goonies.

When celebrations rolled around Jeff, Brian, and I had discussed a Star Wars type adventure. There's only one problem when it comes to Star Wars, and it starts with an L and ends with an s.
