2) I was hoping for a little Pon Farr action in the elevator.

Weren't we all.

I really wasn't, but that's because it wasn't Spock's time of the decade :p

Gotta save something for the sequel! Maybe they'll bring back Nurse Chappel for a Love Triangle =)

I thought the casting was excellent, but the plot was very weak and there were gaps that made one wonder how much hit the editing floor. The visuals were flashy, but a bit too flashy considering this is all supposed to be before ST:TOS. And no effort was really made to keep the designs consistent with established cannon. And then what happened to Kirk's older brother? He would have been only about two and a half years old. Wouldn't the mother have been home with little Sam in the finishing of her pregnancy? Families weren't allowed on board until the time of Next Generation.

I'm not trying to be picky, but the creators did not try real hard to stay cannon even though it would not have taken that much additional effort. Instead, they have created their own cannon and Star Trek wikis had to scramble to change facts to match the *new* reality and make things that were formerly considered cannon, non-cannon.

If their goal was to bring in new people, I don't have a problem with that. But I do fear that any of the new followers that try to go back and see the old stuff are likely to get confused.

***** Spoiler alert **********

and come on, could they have tried any harder to make Nero into a cross between Khan and Shinzon? Right down to putting bugs into you to make you more pliable. The actor that portrayed Nero did a great job with what he was given, but I would have liked to have seen a more original villain.

***** Spoiler over **********

I respect that others enjoyed it fully, but it will never rank high on my Star Trek movie list (although not at the bottom....there are other odd numbered movies that hold that distinction)

Don't forget how bad #10 was - the worst of them all in my opinion.

I haven't seen it yet (and probably won't until I decide to pirate it) but I hear there's a kirk, spock, uhura 3-some in there. That's pretty messed up. I couldn't care less about the movie overall. I loathed the original series. I just couldn't handle the cheese factor. I doubt I've ever even seen a whole episode from start to finish.

That said, I wanna see a DS9 movie. Avery Brooks kicked ass. I'm tired of just hearing him narrate mysteries of the bible and whatnot on the history channel

I own two Star Trek DVDs....Nemesis, which I watch about once a year...and the STNG BORG collection which I also watch once a year.

If Nemesis is #10 - I can see calling it the worst...it is not my FAV...as it is pretty one dimensional...but it is far from a bad movie.

Have not seen the new flick yet...but am kinda worried that it will be to campy to really enjoy. I hope I am wrong.

As far as being a die-hard...I'm far from it even having seen Shatner and Picard at cons in the past...the one true die-hard I know actually sent in/signed a petition to the network to keep the TV show on the air.

It will be nice if the new flick brings in new fans...but I fear any BIG SCREEN series going past 11/12 creations is going to get old, or campy or redundant at best.

Still - I will see it - most likely on PPV at this pace...still need to see Wolverine first.

#10 (Nemesis) was the weakest entry (IMO) of the evens, but it seems they haven't completely killed the odds curse. I've got a DVD of each of the current movies except for the newest (which isn't available yet, of course). At this point, I doubt I'll pick up this one, or the new blu-ray set (which returns to the theatrical versions of 1, 2 and 6). I'm most likely only going to get the newest one if released as a bundle with the extended / director's cuts versions of the first movies.

well I'm not sure I Qualify as a Diehard fan.. but I saw, and liked the New film.

Graned there were gaps in continuity, but is it being Graded as a Star Trek Film IE next in the series, or should it be Graded / Viewed as a Re - Imagining of the Begining?.. Much like some folks have done with Sahkespear.

Personally I go for the Latter, and enjoyed it.

Khan is definitely the best of the movie series IMHO.

I guess in a way it is a big question....was this new Star Trek supposed to be a complete re-imagining or a reality wipeout? I'm not sure even the studio could answer that with certainty. They plotted it in such a way as to make it more of a wiped out reality (giving an explanation for things having changed), but then they changed facts that predated Nero's intrusion and changed some of the personalities and facts about some of the people suggesting more of a re-imagining. Maybe it would have worked better if they had chosen one or the other. Hmmmm.

Thought of another major fact change. In Star Trek VI: Undiscovered Country, it was established that Uhura did *not* speak Klingon (remember the humorous scene with the English / Klingon dictionary?) and yet in the new movie, she's fluent.

I do consider myself a Trek fan. I did like the new film.

I consider 2,3,4 all together as one film.

Easy... the man who would have murdered the person who convinced Uhura to study Klingon at the Academy was in fact killed himself on Kirk's Father's ship... leaving the future victim to live, and somehow (who knows), convince Uhura to study Klingon. :-P

Legally... its questionable. Morally... its disgusting. Personally... I *like* it.

Is that your solution to everything? 'someone, someone, someone Kelvin changed history x way'? :-p

I think you're placing too much value on the Kelvin and its destruction. Already you've got the person who persuaded Sulu to go into botany killed there, and now the murderer of someone who would have talked Uhura into studying Klingon. What next, that the destruction of the Kelvin caused Checkov's parents to decide to have him four years sooner? (Since the data given in the Original canon has him born in 2245, whereas the data given in the new movie has him born in 2241)

Let's also not to forget that Klingon as a language wasn't even spoken/heard by the Federation (in the original canon) until around the time of the first motion picture.
